I find myself tinkering less and less, I got my start in all this when I first built a 486 100MHz, frustration at it's lack of power for music, led me to building pentium after pentium, then the beige G3 was my entry to Macs. Thats when I began to open them less and less and over time only turned them on for tasks and communication.

Now I request that people phone me and refuse their texts quite often. I'd buy a 8 or 16 track reel to reel but now they're "trendy" and cost too much...

It’s funny, but the older I get the more I am beginning to resent technology...it’s not an “old-timer” thing....but i’ve noticed more and more we are de-skilling ourselves.

Plus the fact that the latest macOS versions seem to prevent a user from doing certain things to make things easier under the guise that it is leading to a security breach and such actions are prevented In order to protect the user and preevent a security breach, so I guess some are content to let the OS's robot take over their Mac's usage and just abide by the newer restrictive rules.

Modern technology sucks!

We renewed our Shaw internet account and they sent us a new router ... WOO HOO! ... Faster crap. The old one had 4 ethernet ports but the new one has only 2.

I have my wife's and my iMacs each wired up and then one of those electrical wiring things to connect an old Apple router located on my remote workshop to the internet and finally a communication device for our solar panels on the fourth. The biggest mistake I made was NOT using the same ID for the new router as was used on the old. So all the so-called smart devices had to be reprogrammed ... smart light switches and plugs, a printer, TV, RING doorbell and a PS4.

I know ... we have was too much "smart" crap but there was a rationale for it at the time but today I can't remember what the rationale was.

As far as Macs go I agree each upgrade seems to be oriented to make things that used to be intuitive more complicated or the options disappear. Notifications are an example. I finally just turned it all off. Fortunately, my iPhone and MacBook are old enough that they no longer qualify for upgrades to the OS.

End of my rant for the day.

Most things so far seem to be easily reversed or "allowed", unless there's some in Monterey that I haven't encountered as of yet that is completely restrictive. Most things seem to be common sense stuff that is likely best headed off for most less savvy users.

My only real biggest gripe so far in the new systems is the lack of the ability to clone fully and boot from an external drive. But, admittedly, I haven't had to do that in years.

I got a notification from rogers that we may possibly need a new modem, Im on ignite (the gigabit pkg) the modem is probably about 4 years old or so, wonder of I would get better speeds.

Morning all. I have a new “ smart” tv...what a pain it is...so I just use my Apple TV on it. I’m lucky where I am as I have a indoor aerial that allows me to pickup the local stations here...so I get OTA...CBC, CTV, TVO, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, PBS, and a host of other smaller networks....about 50 channels in all. Old tech strikes again!

We do the same thing.

YouTube TV is our primary content provider for live tv that we used to get via a cable box. The YouTube TV app for our LG TV used to work quite well but after the last several updates it tends to hang every few weeks and need to be reinstalled. Its been so long since we used it I haven't bothered to install the most recent update.

We haven't had that issue with the Apple TV version of YTTV.

We use an antenna and what we don’t get over the air we use the apps on our Samsung tv, YouTube Netflix Disney amazon and Apple TV. Way more tv than we can watch and still far cheaper than cable tv

That's basically what we're doing with the exception of the antenna. We're not in a good position to put one outside and the couple of indoor antennas I've tried don't work well for us.

Sometimes one well place in a higher window does the trick. Trial and error. But it also depends on your area and line of sight.

Hello all. I have a nice French Vanilla Biscotti coffee on this morning…any takers.

was movie night last night…saw Maverick….on the whole I would say it was quite a good movie and well worth watching.

I am interested in a trailer I saw, which is a Mission Impossible movie coming out much later…will definitely see that one.

Question for you…..do you think the James Bond series is done…. I’m a fan and would hope not….thoughts.

Morning all…. Sitting in a heat warning today…hit 103F yesterday, but thunderstorms are rolling in…usually also have to watch for tornados when the weather is like this here.

A good day to work downstairs… I’ve made the decision to clean out my lesson plans and stuff….since none of my offspring wish to go into teacher it is now just clutter…. Got to tell you it was a tough decision to toss the stuff… we teachers are collectors.

Would any of the local music teaching places be interested in your collection??? It seems a shame to just lose it all...

Groove, I stream quite a bit… my most commonly used ”channels” are: Crave ( full blown ), Netlix, CBC Gem ( great selection ), TED, NFB, K, TUBI….great selection, from the library here…HOOPLA, KANOPY….check your library for these two, they are outstanding…and free! …Veeley, and YouTube. I’m thinking of subscribing to PBS Passport.

That’s a lot of streaming! I don’t think we quite watch that much tv.

I have our antenna in the window for now but I’m going to buy the mounting/grounding gear soon and put it up on my roof. It’s easy since we have a 3rd(top) floor back deck I can access walk out and mount it up.

Groove, this is one of my favourite spots when I lived around there…surely you must have frequented this spot as well.
