No, I don’t think I’ve ever been to that. But I have been to denningers many times. In fact I need to go there soon.

It’s funny how we attach to places. I used to love Papa Leonie’s on Blue Jay Way, but I hear its gone now. Easterbrooks has been around for almost 100 years maybe. In Oshawa I used to love going to Mr. Burger, which later became Mr. Beefsteak...and who could forget the Big M in Pickering.

Well if you want the real deal German sausage and all kinds of eats go to denningers. It’s the German delicatessen my mother used to frequent. The hot German mustard is enough to get me to go.

Morning all, a bit cooler today but sunny. I have a few tasks to do, such as weed eating the lawn, getting a new air filter for the furnace, and a new outside door handle for the house.......and then playing with what came yesterday......

I’ve been putting off trying a coconut flavour d coffee...but...got to do it sooner or later...and it is very very nice....who knew.

I would suggest all the other jobs except for attending to the box can wait. You need to address the priorities first and get your priorities in order...

Besides it's probably still too hot outdoors in your area to be doing any out-door type jobs...

Hello all. We are getting a little cooler here in Windsor, only hitting 38c today...we have some rain coming in the next day or so...so that should help cool things.

We have a pumpkin spice coffee on today...not one of my favs, generally, but this one is not too bad.

Have been watching Operation Mincemeat on tv, quite good with the huge stable of recognisable British actors....quite good.

My one coffee thought of the day...

Signs I’m showing my age......

I’m not saying I’m old and worn out, but I make sure I’m nowhere near the curb on trash day.

As I watch this generation try to rewrite our history, one thing I'm sure of .. it will be misspelled and have no punctuation.

Me, sobbing: “I’m not coming back here anymore ... I'm not going to let you hurt me again."
My Trainer: "It was one sit-up.”

As I’ve gotten older, people think I’ve become lazy. The truth is I’m just being more energy efficient.

Morning all....cooler here today.
Been feeling a bit sluggish lately...could be the heat....but I think it’s me showing my age....again! I can’t remember the name of the author, but there is a book called Cultural Literacy...essentially it is a base of knowledge a society thinks everyone should know....and it is age predicated...an example would be knowing what the term “ grassy knoll” meant. Chances are if you are in your 70s you know. It often surfaces when the older generation responses to the younger with “ what do you mean you don’t know this or that”

We can all think of some examples I’m sure...

Below is my age interfering again...

I haven't gotten anything done today. I've been in the Produce Department trying to open this stupid plastic bag.

Turns out that being a "senior" is mostly just googling how to do stuff.

I want to be 18 again and ruin my life differently. I have new ideas.

God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the world. Then he made the earth round...and laughed and laughed and laughed.

I'm on two diets. I wasn't getting enough food on one.

The book was probably "Cultural Literacy: What Every American Needs to Know" by E. D. Hirsch Jr. Yes, I had to search to see if I had it right. IIRC there was also a series of books with a similar theme that broke down what students should know by grade level.

Yes indeed it was by Hirsch, while I found it interesting, much was U.S. biased...but that makes sense as it was for the U.S. market. It makes me wonder, though, what other countries would deem as essential...such as mine...Canada.

I think there would be more similarities than differences -- at least among Western countries.

For example, Canadians and Americans expected to know a certain amount about near universal topics (e.g. world history, Shakespeare, etc.). The differences might become evident with Canadians expected to emphasize Canadian history and Americans expected to emphasize American history.

Slydude I can see this… also attached is the fact that we are Americans…as in living in the Americas as opposed to living in the United States. I’m sure people of different countries living in Europe attach to the European culture.

When I taught ESL I toyed with developing my version of Canadian essential knowledge, but gave up after a while…it was quite a task to even develop a small list of items…..certainly a PHD level study.

You're right, of course. I should have chosen my words more carefully.

That would indeed have been quite an undertaking -- especially when you consider multiple languages/cultures.

I always find it interesting to converse with people who speak English as a second language. Differences in phrases/figurative language often point to cultural similarities and differences

Slydude, that is sooooooo true. It’s also amazing how many land mines one can step on each semester with new students.

Quite true, and I fear that problem will only get worse. People seem to be offended by more things every day and less likely to give someone else the benefit of the doubt.

Morning all, will be hot again today.

We have French Vanilla coffee on for any takers.....served with Maple Scones.

Speaking of Maple, I tried the Maple Whisky BBQ Whopper from Burger King. While I’m not a BK fan, I loved the sauce...they should bottle it.

Started to sort out some of my books...might keep all my Freire.... philosophical mentor in a way.

Some more old age rantings ....

I put my scale in the bathroom corner and that's where the little liar will stay until it apologizes.

My mind is like an internet browser. At least 19 open tabs, 3 of them are frozen, and I have no clue where the music is coming from.

Hard to believe I once had a phone attached to a wall, and when it rang, I picked it up without knowing who was calling.

Apparently RSVP-ing to a wedding invitation with "Maybe next time" isn't the correct response.

There is no such thing as a grouchy old person. The truth is, once you get old, you stop being polite, and start being honest.
