I really don't understand the draw of a front-facing camera for video chat on a phone. I kind of see it for self-photos, but not for video chat. Can you seirously picture yourself holding a phone out in front of you for several minutes to do video chat . . . in public even? Have you ever seen anyone do it with current phones that have front facing cameras? It just seems silly to me. A computer, definitely. iPad, okay maybe. A regular phone, nah!
LOL, wait. So you think it's normal to pose for yourself with your phone's camera like a dork, but don't understand the notion of setting your phone down on a dock of sorts while you're in a cafe, so that you can video chat with a friend, business partner or potential client while you're chillin' ? Who said anything about holding the thing while chatting ?
Agreed 100% Nokia is big on the whole front facing Camera they have been installing them in the N series phones for at least 5 years, I have owned several and have never needed it. Heck I don't even use the camera in my MBP I don't think I have ever even used iChat.
A camera in a cellphone is just that, If you want high quality pics, Go out and buy a Nikon.
You guys are UNBELIEVABLE ! These sorts of statements coming from people whom praise Apple for creating some of the best convergent audio/video devices on the market, makes ZERO sense ! lol Hey, I have my fantastic camera, but there are actually times when it's not possible to have it on me, or that I simply don't feel like taking it down to the local pub or cafe. And so just because YOU don't use the camera on your MBP, means that the rest of us don't use it either ? Really short sighted way of thinking, no ? There are plenty of people whom chat with family using iChat or Skype here and elsewhere. And guarantee that they outnumber those whom don't.
Well said. And I think it applies to an ipad camera too.
Wow. Really ? How is it even possible to think that ? Your iPad is in its dock, and you get a skype call from nana... she wants to see her darling grandson's face.. "sorry nana, the iPad doesn't have a camera". Again, really ? Or are you hoping to see an external camera peripheral, so that you can lug even more wires and garbage with your ULTRA portable and low profile iPad ? lol come on dude.
Totally agreed. Not to mention how awkward it would feel to be videochatting on a phone in public
If you're shy.. that's your problem. Not everybody gets bottled up like that. I could care less about what people think or how they see me. I could care less about being stared at, either. I usually make goofy faces at people whom stare, unless it's a hot girl, which in that case, I'll just throw er' the ol' bedroom eyes glance.
All these things you guys brought up pertain to your personal feelings of awkwardness in said situations and say nothing to the actual convenience which a camera would hold for people whom don't feel as you do.
As for people such as myself, I'll say one last thing. I'll probably catch a bit of flack for this, but that's ok... Since having looked at the 'abilities' of the big iPod Touch since it came out, I've been saying that I'd never get one, because I didn't see the need for it.
however, I've now been in a few situations that have made me say to myself that the iPad would actually be the ideal thing to have in order to show my photo portfolio to potential clients or employers/business partners.
Ok, I can live with adding limited USB functionality via a dongle, and I can possibly even live with the grudgingly slow transfer speeds (I think) of photos from my camera to the iPad via direct connection *because the geniuses at Apple think that all photographers use SD Cards in their camera's for some reason* But if I'm going to get an iPad, I want it to have the functionality which it is capable of handling, and which it will undoubtedly have in a future iteration of the hardware. And at the very least, I'm talking about it having a camera for video. Last point, what does anyone whom isn't going to use it care for ? It won't be in your way or hinder your performance abilities ? And I seriously doubt they'll charge more for this hardware change, either. And even if they did, it's not like you guys aren't used to paying an arm and a leg for Apple quality products.
