Morning all...it’s PBS day today....an evening of Marple, Hotel Portofino, and Endeavour....great TV watching.

I’ve become enamoured with Apple TV’s “For All Mankind”... in my view one of the best shows on TV currently... if you haven’t seen it, it is worth watching.

Expecting it to be a slow day in our virtual coffee shop today...we have a Medium Roast on with a touch of Licorice.....very nice, especially served with Almond Biscottis.....

I’m struggling with today’s New York Times Crossword.... 3 letters Alternative to J.F.K.....R.M.N. doesn’t work so I’m stuck...any ideas.

Today’s thought of the day....something we don’t do enough of....

@rps Are you by chance using the Black Ink crossword puzzle app. I think I worked a puzzle with the same clue a few days ago.

I see MacInWin has already pointed out what that code stands for. As usual I'm a day late and a dollar short.

Hi Slydude, our local paper prints it every Saturday.....along with two other puzzles, so that keeps me busy during breakfast.

Cold. Well, 14C/57F with a nasty little wind. Where we live, the microclimate is generally extremely kind and gentle. There has only been any significant snow in 2000, 2010 and 2013. But this has been a poor summer so far.

Ours is somewhat normal...our usual high temps are around 30c in summer, we’ve had a few 40s this year. As for snow, only used the snowblower 3 times last year.

It looks like you are pretty close to us weather-wise, and here is today's forecast that puts us back into our cold and wet spring and summer we have been experiencing with a very brief 3 Day sort of Heatwave a week or so ago, but no wind:
☔ Today’s weather: Periods of rain. High 15C / low 11C.
Night: Mainly cloudy, 40% chance of showers.

Morning all, rainy here today so that should take some of the heat out....and we do need he rain.

Went and saw The Black Phone yesterday....basically it’s about a 13 year old boy captured by a serial killer who locks him in a sound proof basement. There is a disconnected phone on the wall that rings, the callers were the killers prior victims who give the boy tips on how to try and survive. It is a disturbing film in the thriller class. I use a four point system ( poor, fair, good, excellent )....I have no problem giving this an excellent rating...may not be for everyone but worth seeing. I don’t see this film having the legs to stay in the cinema long when you see what has been released ( Maverick, Elvis, Minions ) so if you want to see it, it should be now than later....well worth seeing.

It sounds like another "waste one's time and money" movie that I sure as h*ll won't be watching or wasting my time or money on...

To each their own I guess... I will definitely give it a pass like 99% of most other lousy movies these days...

No offence to you @rps, but your description of the film and its "theme" would persuade me to avoid it at all costs.

Well Ian, at least that confirms that there will be at least two of us by-passing that film or any others like it for that matter.

Let's go and enjoyy a nice Brew at the local instead, yours or mine it doesn't really matter, but I do prefer Canadian lager. I will buy if you don't mind... ;)

Hi Patrick, that’s why there are many different types of films...we all have our preferences and that is what makes us human.....it would be boring if we all liked the same things I think.

@rps I've seen the promos for the filem and wasn't interested. Your summary gives me a different impression than the trailers I've seen.

Does it seem to you that they are shooting for a Hitchcock vibe? I wasn't originally a Hitchcock fan but SWMBO is a big classic movie fan and as I've gotten older I've become a bigger fan of his work.

Hi Slydude, yes it is very much in the Hitchcock mode. This isn’t a “teen flick”, it is a film about survival. It is well paced, coming in around 1hour 40 minutes, well written and acted. It is not a gore film …nothing like the teen slasher films…the terror is subtle and dramatic at the same time…a Hitchcock attribute…if you like his work you would like this I would think. To be honest, I tried to find bits I would have cut ( as I do in many films I’ve seen ) and couldn’t find one.

Your summary makes the movie sound much more interesting than the trailer that I saw did. I might wait till it leaves the theater to see it. These days I find that more comfortable than watching in a theater.
