CP/M was way cool. My first contact with it was my old Commodore 128 which ran CP/M as well as commodore os.

Then I was given a Xerox computer that was all CP/M. I had the discs and manuals and was starting to learn it. The computer was a Xerox 820.

Yosemite

I have installed it and it is difficult to adjust quickly. I have experienced a few minor issues, ones I am hoping are fixed real soon. When my portable is put to sleep, the login screen sometimes becomes unresponsive. All I can see is my circular icon and nothing else. It does take some time to boot up when it is turned off and then turned on.

Good - hope it helps! Wasn't sure if I could post another site. Some forums are super picky! Take care...

What's with all the animosity towards Yosemite? IMO the UI looks fine to me. The simplistic style brings back nostalgic memories of Panther and Tiger but with less of a 3D effect.

I wouldn't necessarily call it animosity, just personal preference. I like rounded objects (more of a softness) vs square in general. Same with cars. Unfortunately, they seem to be getting more angular lately. Not by a lot, but still.... Did that make any sense at all? ;)

I understand what you're saying. Seems that some of the vent/ranting on here from previous comments has to do with the reluctance of change IMO.

For the past two days I have been reverting my OS back to Mavericks.

Actually I did a full install, not upgrade of Yosemite to see if it fixed everything. Nah, it was still broken as ****. Matter of fact it even screwed my printer up.. ARGH!!!

So I got back on my super speed internet connection and 6 hours later I had Mavericks downloaded from my in store purchases. It would not let me directly install, so of course I made a mavericks boot disk on the through the command line using Apples create install media application. So went to install and while I was at it, I went into disk utility and turned my Samsung 256GB SSD and Apple 1TB HDD into a 1.25TB Fusion array. Disk utility had popped up and offered to FIX it for me. So it works and I didn't have to do anything special on my part. But got Mavericks back installed. But question is, if I am downgrading, why did it feel more like an upgrade?

Well one huge complaint I have is my Time Machine backup would not work. It complained about it being for a newer version of OSX. Which is BS since it doesn't have nothing to do with system file. Way to screw one over apple. While I am downloading everything over which isn't that huge of a deal. The fact I LOST my entire Lightroom Catalog settings for all my photos I have processed is a REAL pain in my backside.

So word to the wise, if you revert back to a prior OS version and your TM backup was made while using a newer version of OSX you CAN NOT USE IT. It will not let you..

But BUT, at least everything is back to working correctly.. Apple should be ashamed of releases a OS when its not ready. Just because you can do something, doesn't always mean you should. But I am sure everyone here fully knows that.. I been come spring when Apple is boosting about all the Yosemtie downloads, they are going to over look the amount of times Mavericks was re-downloaded. Yea those numbers will likely be left out of keynote. ;-)

Using Yosemite was like using a Gnome theme designer's bad dream. This was supposed to be an upgrade? Please.
Took me about 3 1/2 hours to go back to Mavericks. Don't know why Exodist couldn't use his backup, mine worked fine. Made a full backup just before erasing.
Already had a Mavericks stick, heck still have a Mountain Lion stick.
Think I'll stay right here until Apple comes to their senses thank you.

Although Yosemite is working great for me ( only had an initial glitch with mail ), I do see the point that this release of an OS is probably the worst in history. I am not talking about the flat interface, I don't care about that. For me it is all about getting my job done as efficient as possible, and I must say I like the new functionality . As with all large companies, product launches are strategically planned in time, whether they are bulletproof or not. Then release .1 which includes fixes that should have been in .0 but didn't make it on time.

I am sure when .1 comes along, a lot more people will be happy, except for the flat interface. For Apple, that is a change in direction and they will not revert I guess.

Well, it seemed to work great first few days.. So I turned my backup back on and was going to stick with Yose. I never thought that OS version had anything to do with the files on the backup.. TO my surprise, apple thinks it does.. O well.. Its done deal.. Only thing lost was time and my Lightroom Catalog cache.

In the end, I am really happy to have my drives put into a fusion array. Did a little benchmarks and came in at 350mb/s burst speeds, dropping down to 250ish after about 10 secs.. I understand how the fusion works, just didn't expect it to last that long and work as well.

Now IMHO, Apple has planned the look of its OS for many years, its in a constant transition phase were its gradual to the point were most over look the changes. This was the first time that they pushed it a little further then normal. While I feel IMHO that Yosemite was un finished in its looks, 10.11 next year is likely to come full circle and be completely breathtaking to us all. Till then I am going to set this upgrade out. I tried it, but I need stability on this computer as its not just my personal system, but my work system for my video blog. I had to take the rest of this week off just cause of OSX fail.

That said, Mavericks works great for me, I hope 10.11 is much better then 10.10is now. But I have thought about this and between needing a new TV and wanting to get a new camera lens. I have decided to not get the new iMac. Though that 5k is OMFG. LOL.. I am however going to pick up 2 8GB SODIMMs in town this week and kick my minis RAM up to 16GB. It should be a great running system as is for the next 3 years..

Oh my...
Now I'm really glad I went back to Mavericks.
Rootpipe — Critical Mac OS X Yosemite Vulnerability Allows Root Access Without Password
Hope Apple fixes it soon for all you other people.

Looks like it isn't just Yosemite:

"Kvarnhammar tested the vulnerability on OS X version 10.8, 10.9 and 10.10. He has confirmed that it has existed since at least 2012, but probably is much older than that."

Wouldn't that include Mavericks and Mountain Lion too???

I am not saying that the author is wrong ( can't judge that based on limited intel ) but the vulnerability is kept secret and the attack vector is not talked about.
He only talks about 2 controls ( standard user and file vault ) that are unrelated controls in the first place.

Urgent ? Apparently not as 2015 is a very long time away ( in security time units :) )

And his simple block is to not run as Admin all the time. I'm not seeing a reason to panic here.

I don't know - the ability to gain root control of a Unix machine without a password is disturbing, admin account or not. If it truly is tied to admin accounts, perhaps the larger question should be "why is Apple making default accounts admin ones?"

Being able to get into a UNIX of Linux machine without admin password has been around since the dawn of time. But requires the user to physically be at the keyboard to do this and requires a system wide restart. As far as the password file is in the /var directory and is encrypted without the "hold on, wait for it.." Thats right, the PASSWORD... LOL You can't even see whats in the file. It pretty much looks just like this:

AuthenticationAuthority: ;ShadowHash;HASHLIST:<SALTED-SHA512-PBKDF2> ;Kerberosv5
;;joeuser@LKDC:SHA1.35AA07E97624F005350C5DC08A0633E9AFE17A14;LKDC:SHA1.35AA07E97

So Eh.. No worries. The file can be hacked, yea quiet easily on a *Nix based system, but it would likely take anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks, depending on the complexity of the password.

But thats if you allow the person remotely onto your system to start with to get the password. Modern firewall in OSX allows the user to allow or prevent this. Obviously this is something most everyone wants turned off unless you want to work on your computer at work from home.

At least thats my two cents..

Cheers,
Joe
