So who has Yosemite installed and running? What are you over all thoughts about the new UI and how its running over all.

Functionality wise I'd give it an A. Works smooth and quick. New features are great.

Appearance wise I'd give it a E. Flat, dull, boring, reminds me of OS 9 a bit.

Yosemite

so that is any my Mavericks is acting up on the Mac mini (oct_2013)
I had to restart my mini 2x this morning just to clear the RAM.
i might return to Lion, everything worked!

I am pretty new to Mac's I am using the same mac mini you are pretty well, I did find on the apple store a neat little program called memory clean, downloaded and installed it and it works great for clearing memory.
I did download Yosemite and installed it and for the life of me I can't figure out what everyone is complaining about, I must just be really lucky everything worked like a champ for me right out of the box. As with anything new it takes about a week to get everything settled down and I love the new messages app, works great with my iPhone 5S on texts and pictures.

All I wanted was to sync iPhone contacts with Mac

All I wanted to do was to sync my iPhone with my mac and I soon found out that I needed to upgrade to Maverick which I had done but that initially did not work . So I downloaded the latest OS X version that took forever to download and then did the same with the my iPhone ...that took again forever.

I then found myself needing to get an iCloud account, which like others annoyed me as I feel all I want to do is sync my iPhone with my MacBook Pro and am not keen in having all of my info in the cloud managed by Apple and then that exposes me to cyber attack as has happened by so called protected sites such as Google, Sony and Ebay that have been attacked!

In the good old days a simple cable connection between the phone and the computer worked ...now Apple want to suck you deeper into their world and I am not keen on that at all!

I spent half a day getting back to a situation using iCloud that my contact list and calendar now syncs again. I am asked if I would like to buy extra memory space on iCloud yet I have 2 Terabytes at my home office and am not negative to buying more disc space if I need it for photos and videos if needed.

The look and feel of the MacBook Pro screen with the latest OS X upgrade is modern and looks nice, but why do I have to again learn how to drive it ...

The Calendar is slightly different and the method to change the month is again different. I ask why is it necessary to again change...it gives me nothing extra?

When we all go and buy iWatch and the medical sensors will we all be subjected to yet another subtle change of interface and need to accept more iCloud changes to accommodate the new devices? I ask is that really progress?

I can accept a change of interface say every two years but more than that is too much.

Yosemite upgrade

Hey, I don't know what all the negativity re Yosemite is about! I just upgraded from Lion and I like it, a lot . The new look is great; I don't think it is childish, as some have suggested. No problems running any apps; have an issue with Mail passwords but may get that sorted out. Other than that everything is fine.

Installing Yosemite

Have installed Yosemite on both an iMac and a MacBook Pro without any problems. It looks to me as if the only real changes are the ones associated with iOS8.1. These installs were over Mavericks and I have one left to do and that is my wife's iMac which is still running Lion. Has anyone experienced problems with moving from Lion to Yosemite?

If you don't want iCloud, turn it off. You didn't HAVE to turn it on in the first place and you don't HAVE to put stuff there if you don't want to. It's all optional.

Great

I think the new interface is so much clearer because the fonts are better. (iMac 21.5in). Only issue is restoring from Time Macine and this has been widele reported. No other problems.:D

I feel bad for those who are having problems. Really, I do. Two weeks in and Yosemite continues to work buttery smooth here, and on my in-law's MBA. My only gripe is the UI and folder colors, both of which are fixable, as described previously.

Anyone who is having a lot of buggy, unstable behavior should really consider doing a clean install and migrate your user data and apps back from a backup. That's what I did on my iMac. I did a simple install in-place on the MBA, but that is pretty bare-bones with little 3rd-party software on it. Speaking of which, take a very hard look at all your 3rd party software. Make sure anything that loads on startup is Yosemite-compatible. If it isn't, remove it as a trial to see if that was causing issues.

It took my MBP 15 hours to download but only 5 hours for my iMac.

Yosemite installed

I installed Yosemite with no problems. However, like most everyone's posts, I REALLY don't like the flat UI. I find it much more difficult to navigate. My vision isn't what it once was so things like this matter to me. I hope complaints like these will influence future Apple upgrades. Bring back 3D UI. Apple is supposed to be into beauty in design. They failed with this release. :(

I see there are replies here for the whole gamut of likes and dislikes. So here's mine.

I couldn't resist and installed Yosemite on my Mac Air just to see what it's like.

I am no computer expert so my opinion is from a guy on the street.

At first I couldn't see a lot of difference. Everything seemed to be where it was and the way I wanted it. Then things got dicey.

I clicked on my Skype icon to call my sis and found it could not connect. Strange because it can on Maverick on my iMac.

Went to Safari and spent a lot of time trying to get it to behave the way I wanted. For example, I like links to open in new tabs and see them on the bar at the top so I can flip around with just a click or close with a cmd>w. Never figured out how to do that.

Also spent a lot of time trying to figure out all the new bells and whistles. Fun and very Apple but why? I had finally learned how to do things in Maverick.

And the list goes on.

This sounds kinda negative but no. I am an avid Apple fan (iMac, Macbook Air, iPad, iTouch, but no iPhone. Android for me on that one) and love the simplicity and ease of use. But as they say in my country (Spain) it seems the folks at Apple are just trying "to make the curl curlier".

My advice to anyone thinking about it: WAIT.

I dislike the loss of Software Update, too. I really don't like App Store and would prefer not to be required to use it.

So far, I have no issues with Yosemite.

There's no functional difference between the AS and SU with regards to updates. Both perform system updates and you are not forced to use the AS to install software. If you want, you can effectively treat the AS as little more than a means to update your machine.

Aside from the craptastic visuals, I have yet to find a functionality flaw with Yosemite. It works quite well - in fact, it somehow managed to fix a few bugs I'd been experiencing with Mavericks.

Yosemite installation

After installing Yosemite on my MacBook, every task got very slow with many
long beachballs. Solved some of my problems but not my Administrator id or password. Worked with Apple tech support to recover but after many attempts in Recovery program, original OS disks, etc. unable to reset or use a Administrator password. Could not use disk utility without it. Everything we tried was either frozen or blocked somehow. I wish I had not installed this OS and wondering if I uninstalled it, if all thing would go back to status quo?

It sounds like your Mac (whichever one you have?) has hardware problems. It's never a good idea to try to upgrade a machine that might have problems. You haven't given us any info on your Mac, but if it came with disks, it's probably a 2011 model or earlier. Also, it's always a good idea to make a backup before attempting an upgrade.

Other than reverting to a saved earlier OS, can you "uninstall" Yosemite?

No, this is why it's crucial to have a backup before you make any substantial change to your computer (any computer).

As with most other users, no problem with Yosemite, I did lose a couple of software programs that were not supported by 10.10. I reinstalled the software from the install disk and back up running.
