That is what I did in September 2013 when I went for an MBA.
I purchased all the options available .... CPU, RAM, SSD to ensure I could cope with the next few OS updates.

I installed Yosemite on my late 2013 MBP. Install worked with no problems and all 'legacy' applications are working fine. I got used to the new 'look' pretty quickly and it doesn't bother me. As an Oulook user, I had no problems with my mail.

Main 'issue' is that Safari seems a bit slower than before, and the trackpad is less responsive when I try to 'swipe' back and forward between web pages. I am actually using the arrow buttons to navigate where before I only 'swiped'.

Trim is working just as always on my machine ( Late 2008 Macbook 2.4 core 2 duo *G's RAM OWC Electra Mercury SSD Using Trim Enabler)

A new update just came out today as well but it was working fine before that on my machine.

I can't account for why it's working for you, and apparently the developer can't either. Unless you disabled the KEXT signing check. Regardless, you should take note that OWC recommends against using TRIM with their drives. Even for other SSDs, there is some controversy about enabling TRIM because it may not work properly on non-Apple SSDs.

I can tell you exactly wy it's working for me. They set it up so that when you first reboot after turning it on after initial installation, THE APPLICATION turns off Kext signing. That's why it's working. I didn't even realize this was a new issue or that it had happened. Thank for bringing this to my attention. I have since turned it off for the time being.

I love it so far with the integration with my phone, other computer and iPad.

The only thing I don't like about it is the new Spotlight... it used to live in the corner and didn't move to the center of the screen. It is soooo much larger now and I also think it is slower? Anyone else having a slower Spotlight experience? I also don't like how it brings stuff up. Maybe it is just because it is so slow but when I type something, I either wait for a good 30 seconds to show results or I just hit Enter and hope its what I wanted.

Again, other than that, I love Yosemite... the park as well. In fact, I like the park better.

the good and not so good

Well for me the update to Yosemite is a mix of good and not so good
The good:
The install went without a hitch and was very fast! My system seems to like Yosemite well enough and I have not found any problem running the apps yet in the few days since install.

The not so good:
I really do not like the direction Apple is going with their UI. The flat plain look is not appealing to me at all. I thought this with IOS7 update and even more so with Yosemite. Apples always had the cool factor when looking at the screen. But now sitting side by side with my pc the look of win7 is (hold your flame please) much more appealing. Is this a show stopper - No.

Flavacraze - you can turn off the Spotlight suggestions in the System Preferences / Spotlight AND Safari Preferences. This will stop the live online look up at Apple servers for each letter you type. Check out this article - How to Stop Apple From Snooping on Your OS X Yosemite Searches | WIRED

So that definitely streamlines spotlight quite a bit...

I still don't like how it comes to the center of the screen and it also has a noticeable lag whereas previously it did not... Generally (for example Disk Utility) if I type in Di, Disk Utility comes up lickity split in the search bar but then there is a good lag between that happening and the rest of the results appearing.

It just used to be so much more functional. :/ Thank you for showing me that little trick though Scott... that makes it go 10x faster!

One more question: is there anyway to get the dark dock and windows but keep the menu bar light? All of my apps that live on the menu bar are dark in nature and if I switch to dark mode, they basically look like crap.

I installed 10.10 a week ago, and for the most part all is well. No issues during install. The most significant (significant in functional impact) difference I've noticed is within Mail. As I would think is typical, I view my inbox sorted by date with newest on top. Occasionally I'll want to view all mail from a particular sender after having selected one from said sender. Previously (pre-Yosemite), clicking Sort by From would take me to all email from that sender WITH the currently selected mail item VISIBLE in the column, regardless of the senders alphabetical position. With Yosemite I'm thrown to the Z-end of the alphabet, with my selected email somewhere way down the column. This is not desirable. Is it just me? And if I missed this discussion elsewhere on this site, my apologies.

After all of my Yosemite problems and reinstalling Mavericks, I decided to try Yosemite once again. This time, I downloaded a completely new Yosemite install file and created a bootable USB. Then, instead of doing an upgrade to the Mavericks install, I reformatted the drive and did a clean install. I have been using this for a day and a half now and NO problems. Everything that I have and need works.

It's strange as I have always gone the upgrade route with my Mini and it always functioned properly in the past. I have 2 different linux boxes and 1 I have upgraded all the way from Ubuntu 1.04 to its current LTS version. The other box, of the same make and model just will not upgrade properly. I have always had to do a clean install with it. Just makes one wonder....

I don't know why I felt the need to, but I reinstalled Yosemite. I'm going to see how it does and try to force myself to get used to the new look. If only I could stop gagging every time I look away and then back at the screen....

Seriously, Mr. Ive - you make beautiful objects, but software graphic design is not a strength for you!

@Chris:

Did you see the post by Lifeisabeach regarding the TRIM problem and how to turn it back on in Yosemite?

I did, thanks Charlie. I'm actually just going to go without it and see how things go. My M500 actually has over-provisioning and its own built-in garbage collection (similar to what OWC does with their drives). So, I'm hopeful it's not even needed.

Good luck Chris. Keep us posted how it goes.

Everytime I boot up the OS I have to do a double take also.

Too many devices to list
I just thought of this now (despite subconsciously knowing this for a while) - it's an odd mix of muted colours and really bright ones (icons for example). The juxtaposition feels odd but I'm hoping that I get used to it.

According to their FAQ, it presents you with the choice to turn it off.

"Trim Enabler 3.3 will disable the kext-signing setting automatically for you, by giving a choice when you flip the switch."

So you must have done so yourself. I am highly skeptical they would have done so themselves automatically with no prompt. That would raise all kinds of red flags with the security conscious.

The non-upgradeable memory of the new Mac Mini is another sign that this is the case. Apple may be doing it slowly but is a consistent march towards having a non-upgradeable package (which I get for some form factors such as the MBA but it doesn't make sense for others). I'm still okay with this now but admittedly, I've never experienced a catastrophic hardware failure that could mean the cost of a new machine.

I want to get all up in arms over it, but when I sit and really think about it, does it really matter? I think someone who is unprepared for the RAM not being upgradable might get burned in a few years if/as OS X gets more memory hungry, but a well-prepared buyer should account for that in advance. Well ok. ideally I'd rather not pay the "Apple Tax" up front for increased RAM. What they charge for RAM upgrades does bug me. But anyway, back to performance... if an SSD is standard, I don't think being stuck at the minimum amount of RAM recommended down the road for a future release of OS X is going to be as much of a handicap as it has been on older Macs with HDDs and capped at 2 or 4 GB of RAM. It'd be a problem for a "power user", but like I said, such a person should know well enough to buy for future needs.

I did a nuke and pave installation myself, partly because I was anticipating the potential for problems resulting from the increased security in Yosemite. A while back, I had been browsing through my System folder and noticed a large number of files that dated back quite a bit, so I figured I had best start over fresh. Your experience would seem to confirm that my gut instinct on this was right.
