Flatness is different but acceptable.

I'm having some problems waking Mac up from sleep.
Tapping a KB key doesn't work, at times and it takes a restart to get it up again.

Cmd-Alt-P-R doesn't seem to help.
Guess I'll have to call the Appleman

Hi bobert, this post is getting a bit confusing, started on one theme and ended up on another. Non the less I appreciate your question is related if distantly. You might get better response though posting a new thread with your question as a heading.
So a few more details please. What Mac are you using, year, model. How much RAM and available storage. Are you running any peripheral devices or a bluetooth mouse.
PS don't be surprised if a Moderator moves this thread.

I installed Yosemite on my late 2013 MBP. Install worked with no problems and all 'legacy' applications are working fine. I got used to the new 'look' pretty quickly and it doesn't bother me. As an Oulook user, I had no problems with my mail.

Main 'issue' is that Safari seems a bit slower than before, and the trackpad is less responsive when I try to 'swipe' back and forward between web pages. I am actually using the arrow buttons to navigate where before I only 'swiped'.

I think you'll find that your custom trackpad settings have been put back to default. Just reset them as you like.

Another day of torture having to reboot twice as my internet connection keeps failing on my iMac while all other devices are working just fine. Still no sign of being able to use the right arrow search field on Finder (will resort to just using command/f for now - probably quicker anyway) and in desperation this morning as the thought of losing my Photoshop history states was more than I can handle, I turned off the wifi to see what would happen. Luckily for me, my computer is hard wired to the RG (U-Verse) so I can use the internet this way but without wifi. I am just hoping that Apple will be aware of all these little issues and put out a fix toute-suite.

I did, thanks Charlie. I'm actually just going to go without it and see how things go. My M500 actually has over-provisioning and its own built-in garbage collection (similar to what OWC does with their drives). So, I'm hopeful it's not even needed.

I use Trim Enabler on my Mini with my Samsung 830series SSD. It says it is enabled. Is there something I should be aware of?

Im running an OWC in my macbook. Im not real familiar with this whole TRIM issue other than I had trim enabler installed under Mavericks and yesterday, I got a trim enabler update and the release notes said that Apple changed something (can't remember off the top of my head) which made it nearly impossible for TE to continue to work efficiently and used the analogy of using a sledge hammer to put in a thumb tack or the like. Are you now saying that they have figured out a way to run TE on Yosemite? Since I have a OWC Mercury Electra, do I even need it?

I want to get all up in arms over it, but when I sit and really think about it, does it really matter? ...

Ya know, over the years I think many of us including myself have got used to windows and every time we upgrade to the new version, its back to the PC shop for more RAM.

But my favourite two computers I ever owned was a Tandy 1000 HX and a Tandy 1000 TL2. Both of which had the RAM fixed to the motherboard and wasn't really upgradable without of geek hacking with some creative soldering. So basically it wasn't realistic for pratical to upgrade the RAM. Really there wasn't any real need to. By the time software should require more RAM, its likely you need to upgrade the rest of the system as well. And I feel that is likely the mind set that the crew at Apple is using also. To an extent I agree with them.
Why I don't like is the huge upgrade cost, going from 8GB to 16GB should not cost the user $200 more dollars.. I mean seriously it does cost $100 retail and apple isn't paying retail.. But if they did charge $120 or even $150, many of us wouldn't feel the need to upgrade later on down the road and would honestly not give two craps if the RAM is fixed to the board. Myself personally after 25 years of using computers, I rather not have to screw with the system anymore.. I rather spend time using it..

Plus you really can't get mad at Apple for doing this, its not like they are the only ones doing this, car manufactures have been doing this for years, plus others.. No one can make money if you fix something constantly, so its in there best interest to sell you a new product.

Its also like my Canon cameras, I own 3, soon to be 4. Its not like I can upgrade the buffer, cpu or the cmos in the camera. They get old or break, its up to Canon to fix.. So its life I guess..

Yosemite

Mavericks was bad, but I think Yosemite is worse when it comes to what I'll call "window discipline." This is regarding the use of two monitors.

- Mail has always been bad, but is worse in Yosemite--if I close the Mail window but leave the application open it ALWAYS opens in the window I use for the dock (monitor 1) instead of the second monitor, where I want it.

- Mail again: the resolution of my monitor 2 is higher than monitor 1 (different sizes). Unless I fool with it, I CANNOT get the Mail app to open farther down in monitor 2 than is allowable in monitor 1.

- Many other applications open willy-nilly rather than stay where I want them--this is more of a problem in Yosemite than it was in Mavericks.

Agreed. I find multi-monitor support in OS X lacking in general - and it hasn't improved at all in Yosemite (though I can't say it's worse, from what I've experienced).

Unfortunately, Apple committed to this 'menu bar is its own entity, separate from windows' concept with the original Mac and has never found a good way to make this work in multi-monitor setups. This is one of the few areas where Windows really has OS X beat.

I agree as well. Its just very lack luster. They treat each display as its own and no option to have some things treat it as a whole. Somethings are nice like the separate wallpaper, but thats really it. The multi display support in ML was horrid, mavericks did show some minor improvements like ability to have a full screen app open without interfering with the other display. But Yosemite didnt improve this anymore, but currently has introduced some bugs to add to the dislike for this. Really hope some improvements get added soon..

Seems Yosemite Finder cant remember size and position of Finder windows anymore.
Open a window. Make it the size you want. Close. Reopen it's fine.
Restart and it's back to the default position and size again. Going to check the .plist but I don't hold out much hope.

I son't think I have experienced this problem. If I have I haven't noticed it. My window sizes seem to be sticking OK. I'll have to pay closer attention.

It does it on both iMac and Macbook, that's why I don't think it's the .plist.

So, I put my MBP to sleep, took a bike ride to an office to work, get there and my Mac won't wake from sleep at all (had to hard restart it). If this video doesn't sum up my extraordinarily disappointing experience with Yosemite, I don't know what does. No wait, I found this insider video from their QA department that probably more appropriate.

OOps! Not good. Keep us posted.

Sleep is something OSX always did so well compared to Windows. Many seem to having sleep issues with Yosemite.

I have seen many complaints about the sleep issue.

Apple better pull their head from the rear compartment soon. Quality across the board has been dropping slow and steadily since Steve passed away. Consumer loyalty is Apples biggest asset but that will only carry them so far.

It sped up my computer.

I remember the early days of computers when we WISHED we had the ability for 3D icons etc, and now its 2014 and we have ... flat graphics :(

They say imitation is the highest form of flattery (no pun)... so why did Apple decide to copy the flat look of Windoze?

However, it does seem a bit more crisp - but I want the 3D back.

Mail refuses to load "remote content" now for some reason (was working to begin with).

Seems less buggy than Mavericks - especially when running Windoze with parallels. Parallels was even worse with Mavericks (moreso than the typical WIndoze frustration). Yosemite runs it smoother, better, less memory freeze ups (which should not have been happening).

Overall - if the graphics were not so dinosaur era, I likely would have no complaints.

I might be the only one but I really like the flat look. This trend to flat design and vibrant colours is great (hence why I love Google's material design and the flatter look of iOS 7/8).

Probably because this is the primary design ethos of the time. From a design perspective as well, it's much more functional (see here) especially when compared to skeuomorphic design (which Apple was notorious for under Forstall).

As an aside, any particular reason you're spelling Windows "Windoze"?

I think they are pushing for a more futuristic and professional look at the same time. I likely think the folders will be the next to get flattened. But I just cant put my finger on exactly how they came up with this look. I feel they were on the right track, but stopped 90 meters in to their 100 meter dash.. There has to be some depth to the UI or the human mind has trouble distinguishing a button from a text box or vice versa. So wished I could customize OSX like I could GNOME desktop...

What they need is a coat of paint so that it doesn't look like a highlighted blob on my screen (this is my only real gripe with the UI choices as I, unlike most, like the aesthetics of Yosemite).

Man, I couldn't agree more. If I could have OSX's hardware and rock solid useability with the configurability of the Linux UI, I'd be in outright heaven. Just heaven
