Why the hatred towards Mac users??

Most Mac users don't look at it this way. A lack of options is fine with me. The race to constantly upgrade to newer and better devices is a decidedly PC oriented mentality. Nothing wrong with it, if that's your thing, but when PC users start looking at Macs it's one of the first things they get irritated about.

"No choice of video cards!", and their heads explode.

I think it's more along the lines of their choice of video cards are dated. They work fine for OS X, but if Apple is trying to market that they can do everything a PC can, They're going to have problems when people start complaining that they can't run games or do things that certain 3D PC programs can because of limitations.

If they atleast offered a refresh of machines with video cards at a closer interval, that could potentially attract more purchasers.

I mean, you can even get budget laptops and pc's with dedicated GPU's at this point.

I still have my gaming PC. That's not why I bought the mbp. The recording software I want to use is OS X only, so that's what I went with.

When in detail mode, perform a command click on the window title. A list will appear starting with your current location and listing each folder leading to the top level.

Again this is kinda "hidden" away.

The cut option of Windows has always bothered me. But I do agree some quicker way to move files would be nice. I've been using the drag & drop method where when you drag a selection to a new folder and hold it there, the folder opens up and you can continue down the folder list until you find the location you really want the contents moved to.

This works until you need to move files to a parent directory. You then have to go to the top and all the way down the tree.

I think with certain components like the CPU I have a very strong urge to upgrade (Despite never actually being concerned enough to install a new processor, personally)

With me its that the options available to me when I buy an apple computer would be limited with the iMac or Mac Mini (I'm not a laptop kind of person, yet!) simply because there isn't something relative to what I would like to acomplish with a computer in a good price range

You are right though, for years i've been checking apples range and prices.. Still gets on my nerves, I always think just slot that in, upgrade this and that.. Bloody things, these machines

Village Idiot has also made some great statments, people in the tech industry must really get annoyed with constant reference to marketing slogans.. I suppose because thats just what they are. I could roll off lines from Dell Alienware, Evesham, Acer and so on.. Its all just marketing. Like the people with NVIDIA posters up on their walls, not my cup of tea

As I recall you prefer detail mode. Draging the selection near the top or bottom of the file listing will allow you to scroll up or down and you can drop the content into the parent folder name specifically or over an area contained within it with a little finesse (I drop over a non folder).

If you accidently open a folder, press the escape key to close it. Unfortunately you then have to start over.

My preference when the drag method requires a long path to the destination is to simply open the destination folder in another window. That way I'm unlikely to drop the content into a wrong folder by accident. Oh. I prefer the column view because it allows for quick navigation.

IMHO the only people worth listening to when it comes to arguments between Mac and PC's are those who use both in their daily lives.

Funny story:

my friend and i were sitting in our econ class the other day starting up our macbooks. a kid from the other side of the room pulls out his huge clunky dell laptop and starts ripping on macs. "i would NEVER switch to mac os x, it just sucks!" so we just kind of ignore him and as he turns his computer on, he gets one of those error messages and a full on system scan right off the bat. he looks back at me and sees me laughing, looks around, and quickly closes his laptop and puts it in his bag.

There are a number of factors that contribute towards "Mac Bashing". People will always bag out things they don't understand

I work as an IT Network Support Officer, and I am a hardcore gamer, so I absoloutely love PC's for that. Yet I use my mac for everything else. I am heavily into movie editing and recording (I am in a band so do all out EPs and stuff) and Mac is awesome for everything except gaming

With the change over to Intel, and now being able to run Windows native, who wouldn't want a Mac. In the next few years I think there will be a huge amount of switchers to Mac

But I still love my PC, and I still love my Mac, it's just that I understand what they are good at, and where they shortfall

The general public is under the false impression that a Mac can't do what a Windows PC can, when we all know that is completely false. Maybe a few years ago I would have agreed, but Mac have certainly come a long way

Thats just my opinion though, anyone agree?

You bet I do, for the same reasons. I've worked for newspapers for the last 20 years and for pagination and photo editing, it's Macs all the way. Every paper I've worked for was Mac based; not a one PC. I've worked on both platforms since my freshman year in college; yes, PC's handle the heavy games beautifully, and currently the vast majority of applications are Windows based, but with the Intel processors in Macs, that advantage is moot.

All I can say to Mac Bashers is that they need to do more research and they should move to the future. And get a life.

I mean come on, can a Windows PC run Mac? But a Mac can run Windows. And any other OS. If you're having compatibility problems, then install Windows on your Mac. Plus the Mac is faster, leaner, and malware free. You don't need to spend $$$ on anti-virus that doesn't always work.

And to the thread link posted on the first page.. the people in that external thread are stupid (no I don't mean the one who posted the link). It's either they don't know what a good computer is when they see one, they're envious of Mac users, or they're just plain dumb. Seriously.

That's an artificial restriction, however, not one of capability.

Raising that argument as a PC putdown doesn't strengthen Apple's position. It weakens it; it points out that it's Apple's doing because of its licensing restrictions, thus the angst among the $300 PC crowd. PCs are perfectly capable of running OS X, and would tomorrow if doing so was legal. So that position doesn't strike me as particularly valid, and, perhaps, it's best avoided.

Being a computer enthusiast at heart, I can certainly appreciate both perspectives. In my view, I don't think most PC users bear any natural disdain for Mac-Users, but rather they feel that a faster and more powerful machine can be put together in the PC World. When fine tuned, kept up-to-date, and filled with it's 10 corresponding anti-virus/anti-spyware/anti-rootware, windows can operate quite effectively.

On the flip side, for just about 99% of what we do on a PC is more intuitive, elegant, and easier on the Mac OS. Furthermore, Apple's eye for design creating very aesthetically pleasing hardware has placed it as the "Haagen-Dazs" of personal computers. Most Mac-users I know harbor an inherent smugness. Myself included when it comes to notebooks. I mean, compare a MacBook Pro to one of those PC plastic clunky laptop bricks?

It's something like that for me, at least nowadays.

I got my first Mac simply because I wanted an Ipod, and they were Mac only. That was a g3 Imac, and it never really converted me - I got to know OSX, but other than Ripping CDs and filling the Ipod, it was just a curiosity to me. It was far slower than the PC I had at the time.

But when the G5 towers came out . . . had to have one of those, just because it looked so cool. When they started making them with Intel chips too, no brainer really. Nerd heaven.
