What more info would you like? Presumably you know what software you were trying to install so now you can contact the provider and tell them it doesn't install on your machine, or would you like to view a hexdump of the stack and maybe send an email to Apple that noone willl ever read? ;)

An error code to look up online and find a solution would be great. And I would prefer something better than "unknown".

You are assuming that the OS knows why your software wouldn't install, if an Application (like an installer for example) just stops responding, crashes or exits with a generic failure code the OS doesn't have anything more to report except that it didn't work. It is up to the Application to provide more information or to exit with an error code that the OS can report back to you.

I just got this today. I had to find a scholarly peer-reviewed research article for my Sociology class, and the one I found that sparked the most interest I had to pay for to get the whole thing. Carelessly, I used my Windows machine to buy it and had just purchased the article when Internet Explorer quit on me and for some odd reason I had to pay for the article again a second time to access the full version. I guess they didn't save my information the first time. But this time I used my Mac, and now I have my research article. But having to pay twice really makes me mad at Windows.
