I have seen that many times especially on older PC's. Agreed, how do you press a key? There ARE NO KEYS!! :spook:

What it says is "Keyboard error or no keyboard found. Press any key to continue."

What it's actually supposed to mean is, "The system needs a functioning keyboard in order to boot properly. Plug a keyboard in and press any key to continue."

Microsoft saves a whopping seventeen bytes on the install disk by shortening the message that way.

yesterday a friend called me to come look at her computer because she thought it was broken. I got there and turned it on, before windows booted i got this:

Cannot boot Windows because the following file is either missing or corrupted.

/windows/system32/system/[some inane but important system file]

Please insert your Windows XP installation disc and press 'R' to repair this problem.

My friend asked "Is that bad?"
I couldn't help but laugh.

I just got that exact error the other day. What had happened is the Hard Drive developed a Bad Sector where that file was stores. You really can't blame windows for that though! :spook: Samsung Hard Drive by the way.

Yep, that is the exact message alright. I know what it wants me to do but the average user will sit there and freak out! :spook:

This isn't an error message, but I get that "There are unused icons on your desktop" message, which really bugs me. I use a PC at work and I always feel as though I'm being scolded, like I need to clean up my room. Nag, nag, nag, if I want to clean it up I will, in my own good time!

That's not a Microsoft error, that's an error message that comes directly from the ROM chip on the motherboard. I also wouldn't suggest plugging in a ps/2 keyboard while the computer is running.

No other information or anything. Wait, sorry. I'm getting this on a Mac not a pc. Never mind.

I like the one that tells me I've just plugged a USB 2 device into a USB 1 port and then suggests I plug it into a USB 2 port when I don't have any! Would it be beyond the abilities of the OS to actually check if I have any first?

Amen-Moses

I hate this one so much. Since I'm still using a ThinkPad (until I can afford to get a MacBook) I see this msg when I plug in a thumb drive or iPod. "Yes, I KNOW I should plug it into a USB 2 port, but there ISN'T one!"

What more info would you like? Presumably you know what software you were trying to install so now you can contact the provider and tell them it doesn't install on your machine, or would you like to view a hexdump of the stack and maybe send an email to Apple that noone willl ever read? ;)
