I was able to fix my iTunes update problem from reading the discussion here:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6601961

All I had to do was download iTunes 12.0.1 manually and install it. I did have problems with trying to download it from Apple though. When I clicked the download button a page came up thanking me for downloading but nothing was downloaded. I had to download it from Techspot,

Glad to finally get rid of that little red 1 on my AppStore icon.

Touchpad less responsive

I'm a switcher, and have just had my MBA for two weeks. Can't say I notice the flatness, but the dock looks better, less jumpy.
What I'm not too thrilled about is that my touchpad is slower and feels less responsive - I posted that on twitter, and got several folks who were in the beta tell me the same thing.
Any of you guys having that, and have you been able to fix it?

2019 iMac 27"; 2020 M1 MacBook Air; macOS up-to-date... always.

I'm using my trackpad and it seems fine here. Have you tried new batteries? Using any 3rd party tools? What's the tracking speed set as in your Trackpad settings in System Preferences?

This is the first OS release I am sitting out until the update. iOS 8 and now Yosemite, I agree it looks like schedule is driving development.

It's the internal touchpad/trackpad, so I don't think I can swap the battery :)
It's set to level 7 - I also tried 8, which obviously does make it faster, but the response is not as smooth as it was under 10.9 - switcher here, I can't keep all those OS names apart :)

Yeah, actually almost everybody told me to wait, but I had a very annoying WIFI issue from the start, and it was suggested that 10.10 might fix that. Will be testing that in the next few days, as it was intermittent.

Your loss, Yosemite has been my daily use OS for months and it works and looks great.

I'll bear the loss.
iOS 8 cost me an APP I used almost daily and gained me not much that I actually use. I am content to wait and let things sort out.

Eventually I will update, but see zero reason to rush at this point.

This is incorrect. TM in fact backs up everything on the drive, the system and invisible files included. It's just not in bootable form, that's all.

Okay, so now I am curious. If I boot from a bootable maverick usb can I then restore from a TM backup and have maverick back with all it's updates? Just curious because I am sure I will get asked this someday.

What app (which is not an acronym and thus doesn't need to be capitalised)?

Free Cell

Other versions available that work, but I liked this particular one.

And, I agree app or App or APP doesn't require capitalizing, but I prefer the look of it that way.

Yes, if you boot with an installer that has the Restore from Time Machine Backup option, you point it at the Time Machine backup that is your previous system and it will put it back to what you backed up. I do that all the time here.

I tried to help another user here do that very thing but he has other issues and got mad and would try nothing else.

Most current Mac's including the one listed on your system specs should in fact have a built in Restore option that lets you boot the computer into a subsystem and then restore the entire computer from a TM backup or from the web. Keep in mind the "web" option will just re-install Yosemite now, but a fresh copy. The TM backup will install everything the last time TM ran a backup. So if you have it turned ON on the normal auto backup, you likely will still be stuck with Yosemite. But if you do what I did, I turned mine OFF prior to installing the new OSX version. So I can boot into restore and restore from TM back to the way everythign was before installing Yosemite. But anything I do right now, is lost if I do this. Then again if it all ends up working just fine for me, I can turn TM back on and it will back it up to exactly as it will be then.

The new look will take some getting used to. I preferred the old one, but it's only been a few hours. Glad I figured out how to change the dock from the green to a grey color, wish it was transparent, but that's just me. :) So far no issues, but I haven't tried to print yet, and my card programs have had problems for years since Hallmark never fixed the printing issue that started when I upgraded to Lion and PrintMaster can be a pain as well. Right now it's just about getting used to the new layout and look.

Do remember if your backup drive has a lot of room, there are many backups stored there. If you remember the date you backed up with the older OSX, you look for that backup and select it and it will restore whatever OSx version was there.

Also I keep Time Machine off when doing any upgrades just like you said. Makes things more simple to figure out which Time Machine backup to have it restore! :D

No problems, loving it so far. Lots of updates but all working smoothly. Naturally I did complete BackUps first.

Check with the developer, maybe they are working on an update!

Which Free Cell is it? I love that game and have a couple installed. Is it on the App store? Can you show me which one? unless the DEV has given up, I bet there will be a upgrade soon.

Ive had it installed on a separate partition since the BETA and so far i like what i see.
Have all my apps reinstalled and they work fine under Yosemite.
But incase it all goes wrong i still have my trusty old ML to fall back on.
