I don't see how having a camera on the iPad would make life easier.

-Instead of whipping out my camera or phone I can take a quick shot of something on the very device I'm searching the web on.

-I wanna upload a video onto YouTube I just shot

-I wanna upload photos to my Facebook account

-Video chat (Skype, AIM, etc.)

That's why I typed this, because I know that.

- video chat is something that varies with the user. . . .Now some people may do it all the time, and I'm sure some people rely on it to stay in contact with family/friends.

Apple may, in the future, release a beefier version of the iPad that includes all those things. . . .

I am not trying to say at all that having a camera on the iPad is a bad idea.

- that is going to be really awkward holding an iPad backwards to shoot some video or take pictures with.

- video chat is something that varies with the user. I have not used the iSight on my MacBook for video chat EVER, and I have had it for way over a year. So to me, not being able to video chat or have a camera on the iPad at all wouldn't matter. Now some people may do it all the time, and I'm sure some people rely on it to stay in contact with family/friends.

Apple may, in the future, release a beefier version of the iPad that includes all those things. But let's wait and give it a chance first before throwing it outside in the rain.

Having cameras on both ends wouldn't be hard to imagine, and just because you don't do video chat it doesn't mean millions of other people don't. Skype is becoming another big website, and having the ability to use your iPad as a voice chat connectivity is revolutionary. Its like someone saying the iBooks is pointless because I don't wanna read books that much in the first place, but like you said Apple may release a bigger version of the iPad featuring a camera and additional features. I'm not throwing it out in the rain because I'm convinced that I'll most likely buy an iPad this summer, so I can have it before my fall classes start. :)

For me, I'll definitely wait until the reviews comes in.. May be the price will fall during that time as well... Sometimes, waiting might be a good choice to choose... However, this is only my opinion.. :)

Pay to play, Closerframe. End of story.

I am REALLY surprised you still can't get it.

As for iPad camera issues, I was also surprised there wasn't at least a forward facing camera for iChat. A rear facing camera would be silly though. It's like carrying around a dinner plate to take pics/video.

And I'm still surprised that people still don't get it.
What to get is the ipad is better without a camera. But some people will just never understand. But if you want to indulge in the silly then for a photo camera it's better on the back (non touch screen side) so the touch screen is the viewfinder for the camera and you can see what pic you're taking before you take it. Just like a real camera. The camera lens is not on the same side as your face when you take a pic of someone. And I'm sure it will not be akward to take pics with an ipad sided device this way. It's not as heavy as a good china dinner plate and not as thick too. I'm sure if this was possible, that people would get used to it really quickly. I don't see the size of the ipad being an issue.

But for webcamera (I really don't know why anyone would think the ipad could be a good web chat device) but anyhow for a webcamera you want the camera on the screen side pointing to your face so the person you are chatting to can see your face.

So a dilema. Do we want a pointless video/still camera or do we want a pointless webcamera. As having both, one of either side of the ipad would be really silly. And no matter which side a hypothetical camera would be on, there would always be someone who would cry "I wanted the camera on the other side".

There is just no pleasing some people I guess.

Or we can just eat any bull crap Steve Jobs feeds us. People continue to tell the "doubters" to wait until they get their hands on the device before they judge it. You don't necessarily have to, I can see what it does, and I can conclude that it truly is a giant iPod Touch. What more does it have? A faster processor to run my already fast apps? Seriously, $500. If you think that's an unbeatable price then you guys are loaded.

And the troll has been able to carry this thread out long enough.
