As far as protecting the outside of your Mac, I have found the hard shells from Ion Factory to be quite effective. The carbon fiber hard shell, in my opinion, is probably the most light-weight, portable, and durable protection reasonable money can buy at this point.
Have you ever noticed that with your speck or incase shell protects from most outside elements, however, the shell itself scratches the aluminum of your MacBook Pro?
Ion Factory's case has a velvet interior lining that cushions the inner plastic-aluminum matrix, preventing scratching from dust particles unlike most competitors.
Try them out! Their customer service is excellent.

Does anyone have the invisible shield case for their macbook pro?
Is it easy to apply and does it stay on?

Yes, I do. It's tedious to get on. Once it's on, matte aluminum finishes look like glossy plastic. I've also noted some yellowing on the base. Not sure if that's from heat or contact with the rubber pads on my mStand though. Also a lot of the corners have started to lift. But they are good about replacing it should something go awry (although they will only replace it once)

Heya, I just bought a MBP 13.3" and have been on the fence about a few bags, not sure which to choose. I'm currently using a Ogio Epic:

OGIO - Epic- laptop, school, school pack, school bag, back to school, book bag, book pack, computer, computer bag, computer pack

which I love, but is just too big to be "economical." The MBP just swims and I only carry that, a couple of notebooks, ipod, phone, PSU, and a couple of pens.

I also have a older Jackpack from OGIO, but I hate the style since it's one where you have four clips to undo, and then you zip out the front to get to the laptop, and still the laptop swims in the compartment since it was made for a 14" Dell I had bought it for originally (like 5 years ago).

I'm currently looking at the Moderate Embarrassment from Crumpler:

Crumpler The Moderate Embarrassment > Messenger Bags > Messenger Bags - eBags

The booq Taipan S

Booq Taipan 13 MacBook Laptop Slimcase > Non-Wheeled Computer Cases > Business - eBags

and the Case Logic Urban Messenger:

Case Logic 15.4 Urban Messenger Bag > Messenger Bags > Messenger Bags - eBags

I want something that's more to fit for the macbook, but will hold the two notebooks and various accessories/necessities without being too big. I love my Ogio Epic, but I just don't carry the big books this semester >_<

Any thoughts on those bags or any others would be great!!

How long have you had it on before the corners began to lift? Do you travel often with your Mac or just on occasions?

Probably about 3-6 months. What I ended up doing is trimming them back and instead of leaving a square line, I sort of put a half-moon in it. This seems to keep them down.

Yes, I travel daily with my machine. It goes back and forth to work (where it sits on a Rain Design mStand). When it's time to travel, I put it in a sleeve and subsequently into a notebook bag, so it's very well protected.

Can someone please help me find a clear black/smoke hard shell case for my previous generation mac book pro 17 inch (silver keys). All manufactures say discontinued, but someone out there has to have one laying around.

I have found other colors for this generation but no smoke.

I prefer the incase version but I will try anything at this point.

Speck has one in black (it's still semi-transparent, only darker than smoke):

Speck | SeeThru Hard Shell for MacBook Pro 17" (silver keys)

Yes, I am aware of Specks web site, however the problem is the black one is on back order. There is a good chance they are also discontinuing the model considering the fact that they just cleared out their inventory at 50% off. I am just speculating due to the clearance pricing.

So to review....... speck, incase, and macbook-case.com are all out of stock/discontinuing 17 inch previous generation smoke/black cases. The Techshell, which is allegedly still available, reviewed horribly due to bulkiness and lack of vent holes on bottom.

I'll be really impressed if someone can locate me the speck, incase, or macbook-case that I am looking for!!!

edit: Speck has also officially discontinued their previous generation mac book pro hard shell case. backorder = discontinued

I have a Fall of 2007 13.3" white MacBook. I would like to get a Speck Mcover or other flexible hard cover, but most of the pictures show the bottom cover with numerous ventilation holes. My MacBook has no bottom vents. I like this because I don't have to worry about blocking vents setting it in my lap.

It seems to me that unnecessary holes just add a place for dirt to get under the case. Does anyone know of a hard flexible plastic case without ventilation holes in the bottom?

EDIT: I would also like it to NOT be shiny!

I'm about to get myself a MPB 15" next Tuesday. My main concern now is what is it that I really need to care for it? I'm currently a student so cash isn't exactly an easy flow. I'm wondering if anyone could suggest the 'main' protective item I need before adding other things like bags and etc.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I currently don't use a permanent cover for my MBP 15 inch. One day at school I dropped it off a 3 foot high desk (on accident of course) and to my surprise it was virtually fine. The battery cover is no longer flush with the bottom lol, but other than that it functions perfectly fine. I would definitely recommend getting something in the way of a permanent hard cover. Im hoping to invest in one soon myself so that doesn't happen to me again lol. Just when you think you will never drop it, you will. lol
