I just noticed now that Activity Monitor has an energy tab to track energy usage. It would seem that they use an contrived formula to measure usage. And, I now have a much greater sense of Chrome's inability to manage its power usage:

View attachment 19641

That third number is the "average energy impact." It's not even close to something like Firefox.

Well Chrome was my favorite browser because I had it on my android phone as well. But I might need to change that.
If only I could find a way to sync between Safari on my Mac and Chrome on my phone:Smirk:

The fixed (I say fixed because full screen has been broken since it was released) full screen functionality is awesome. I used it today and had no problem full screening a collaborative Google Doc while using my MacBook screen to do other things. This alone made the upgrade worth it (in terms of user facing features).

my update went great... :D

and I could not agree more with vansmit...

Mavericks is installed without a hitch.
My 2013 MBA is a lot more responsive. Great stuff.

Has anybody done a clean fresh install of 10.9 yet? After installing this way what is the best method of restoring all software, settings etc to Mavericks from Mountain Lion via Time Machine backup?
Ask because I have never done a clean install before and because making a Mavericks Boot Disk has changed significantly now.

O:)

Weird stuff just happened.

I had 20 GB of free space on my disk. Then I saw a message saying that my boot drive is almost full. And I checked, it had 160 MB free space. Then I tried to do a google search to find a solution. While I was typing the keywords, I saw that I had 40 MB free space. Then the computer went unresponsive and I had to press power button to restart.
When it restarted, I had my 20 GB free space back.

It has been a very horrible experience for me dealing with Mavericks.
First I made 2 partitions, just to be safe installed the second partition with mavericks.
It is a nightmare, no iphoto (you have to purchase) and itunes songs are gone. I have reach the point of no return. Last 2 upgrades you have the iphoto and itunes intact.
Apple will give you free osx, with options like iphoto you have to pay. Just have to look for better alternate.

That's not an UPGRADE, that's a clean, separate install.

To upgrade, get rid of your second partition. That's fine for trying out a new OS but useless for upgrading your existing stuff. It's a blank canvas. Your better off backing up your current OSX install then just do the in-place upgrade. You'll keep all your apps and files.

Finder tags: "All Tags..." missing from Sidebar

After renaming and deleting some Finder tags (in Mavericks), the catchall "All Tags..." item disappeared from the Sidebar in Finder. How do I get it back?

Does it stick from boot to reboot? I turned my library folder view on with MacPilot (part of their tools).

I always do a clean install - doing that helps to clean up all the crud that inevitably builds up over time. The prize? I now have roughly 40GB of free space (part of this is also selectively restoring and reinstalling software as well).

Nice to see that Apple added that.

Made a backup image of my drive this AM. Didn't want to rely on TM backups as I've had issues in the past.

Installed 10.9 - so far so good. I don't notice any appreciable change in performance. Nothing seems to conflict at this point. It did take Time Machine a bit to iron itself out, but seems to be functioning normally. (I guess they did away with the spinning arrow icon in the menu bar?)

Fusion 6 working fine, which is pretty critical for me. Happy thus far!

?? Is this the same as the Cmd+J shortcut as i right click in the Finder Window and have no such thing ??

I love the new look Activity Monitor, gives me a bester understanding of Safari and it leaking memory. Will be watching with greta interest.

Has anyone noticed with the iOS 6.0.3 update that their iDevice is soooo much quicker ?? Go to the App store and touch any App and bam quicker than i can type bam, the Apps up and showing Info :) I dropped this here because i think its to do with the Mavericks Upgrade.

PS ~ A little something i found. You can write emoji straight from a keyboard shortcut now Control+Command+Space as long as the cursor is in a writing field, do this combo and you will get emoji's instead of having to use the "Show Character Viewer" way

I hope Greta is on your case about "bester". :p

Older software usually does that for you. ;)

I joke - those two were too tempting to pass up. :p

TM, that option only appears for me while I have the home folder selected.

So, it doesn't show up if you have the root of the drive, pictures, documents folder, etc. selected.

So it does. Thanks mate, better help than the Admin ::cough:: ::cough:: above me. I did go through most windows, and thought i even tried my Home Folder thinking exactly that, but it seems as if i missed it. This clarifies it for me Cheers

Even though iPhoto is listed under "Purchase", you can still download it for free. That is though, if your computer was bundled with it when new (Lion and above, I think).

Mate I just did a Google Hangout, and i must say this works really well, and like you, worth the upgrade there alone.I had the Hangout screen on my 47" Full Screen and i could still type what i needed to on my Mac.
About time i must say.
