Thanks guys :)

I don't know if it's the server or me, but download is so slow that it downloaded 40 MB yet. I think I'll cancel and continue later.

Right now do remember everyone is on that server at the same time so things might move a bit slow. Try later if it's too slow now.

You must realize that lots & lots of other users are trying to do the same thing...at exactly the same time. Server slowdowns are almost guaranteed to occur.

oh... and now it would seem my audio interface (connected via thunderbolt) doesn't work either... so now my my work machine that i use for music producing is redundant as i can only use internal speakers........ that coupled with my boot times being twice as long so far I'm unimpressed

You might check the maker of your Audio Interface for a new driver. It might take a few days.

This is potentially why upgrading so quickly can be a "rough road". Not necessarily because there is something wrong/buggy with the OS upgrade itself...but immediate compatibility with other things:

- software applications that don't have updates available yet
- external or internal hardware that may require a driver update
- etc.

to be fair (don't wanna sound so negative BUT) I'm actually pretty annoyed with apple as of late, before they would release a newer upgraded version of a device and its predicessor would drop in price, well now its got to the point that although newer models are improvements in every way and they are 'twice as fast' the device they replace wasn't slow in the first place so rather than that being a lower price when the newer device comes out they discontinue it, take the iPad for example, they have discontinued the iPad with rd cos they know if they dropped its price a lot of people would pick that over the new iPad air as in real life situation is not slow at all... just slower, so instead you have to buy a very outdated iPad 2 if you fancy a cheaper alternative, they did it with the iPad 3 also, same thing with the iPhone 5

Also they 'secretly' updated the iMac range a month ago without announcing it at all and havnt even mentioned it yet, i purchased this new generation iMac, they go on about new free ilife and iWork if you buy a new generation mac.... well... i can't upgrade for free... although i have a new generation mac but cos it wasn't announced and was released 3 weeks early... for some unknown reason i miss out?

Lastly (i am just moaning now) the new iPad air (just an example) is $499 which is around around £307 BUT if i wish to buy an iPad air in the uk i have to spend £399 which is $648 how does that work out? I'm seriously considering alternitive computer next time around, although i don't know what, i dislike the new windows (8/8.1) a lot and haven't really used linux a great deal

- Have you heard of VAT? Gotta be adding something to the price.

- Have you heard of the consumer protection laws in the UK? They are MUCH more favorable to the consumer than here in the US. Somebody has to pay for this (end-users) which = higher prices.

- Have you compared the price of various identical items on "e-Bay UK" vs. "e-Bay US". You'll find (in many cases) the price to double or more. I'm talking Apple items or other non-Apple items (stuff is just more expensive in the UK).

- Have you compared the price of milk, bread, eggs, automobiles...etc. etc. to what they cost in the US?? I think that you'll find some big differences there as well.

Something to think about, :)

Anybody stop the install process after download and make a copy on a flash drive yet? I am hoping that the procedure for Lion and Mountain Lion works the same, but all the verbage is that Mavericks is an "upgrade." That gives me willies thinking of the old dos/windows full/upgrade versions.

Since my terrestrial wireless will take hours and hours to download almost 6 gig, I only want to do it once. Not four times for four computers.

Anybody who makes a bootable install, please post.

Yeah, I stopped the install process and will put Mavericks on a 8 GB SD card a little later this evening when I get some more time and things are quiet around here. ;) BTW, there are several sites that give detailed instructions. You will need at least a flash drive, SD card, etc, of 8 GB to do it.

However, it's no big deal if you don't copy Mavericks to a flash drive. Since it's free, you can download it again and again. It's just more convenient to have a bootable copy for trouble shooting purposes.

Waiting until I get home from work to install it. Not expecting any issues (hopefully), from what I've heard the GM was pretty stable.

It's so far, in about 30 or so minutes, has managed to download just under 41MB. It says I have 1 day, 20 hours to go..:)

Well, I go to the App Store, locate OS X Mavericks, am offered a "download" button, and click it. Absolutely nothing happens. I've tried over the past several hours, rebooting in between. Always nothing at all, no response other than the button "dimming" as I press it and going bright again directly afterwards. When it's downloading and before it's executed where will it be on my computer?

Anyone any idea what if anything is happening, and why?
