I can still see Mountain Lion available to download in the Purchases tab in the Mac App Store. So you can download it from there to create a 10.8 installer if required.

Being aware of the problems that came to light with latest iOS updates, could someone post details of how to prepare for, and re-install Mountain Lion, should the need arise in the near future. Thank you.
Yes indeed.. No matter what OS it is..

Right before downloading Mavericks, I did a TM Backup.. Just in case..

Some of you guys are VERY brave installing an OS upgrade so quickly...especially if we're talking someone's main computer.

Who knows what "early-adopter" glitches may be lurking!;)

If I had critical work to do or had hardware that maybe needed manufacturer driver support etc, I'd hold back.

But It's more fun this way!

Never even bothered to check if my Late '07 MacBook was compatible with Mountain Lion. Turns out that it isn't, and thus Mavericks is a no-go as well.
Oh well, Snow Leopard is doing just fine.
It has been a very horrible experience for me dealing with Mavericks.
First I made 2 partitions, just to be safe installed the second partition with mavericks.
It is a nightmare, no iphoto (you have to purchase) and itunes songs are gone. I have reach the point of no return. Last 2 upgrades you have the iphoto and itunes intact.
Apple will give you free osx, with options like iphoto you have to pay. Just have to look for better alternate.

I just tried to download it and to bad got a message that said my Mac can't be updated, oh well snow leopard works fine with me

Don't worry about it. I put Lion onto my old white 2008 MacBook. Lion was too heavy for it, even with upgraded RAM. Constant spinning beachball!!

I reverted back to SL.

If this is a fresh install of course your songs are gone. Unless you cloned your current system onto the second partition.
There is a difference between an upgrade and a fresh install. Don't know about iphoto.

See above.

Let mine download overnight. Will make an install stick when I get home and go to town!

I had zero problems on the download and install.
I had to buy iWork since my version was 09 and it would not update iLife 11 since mine were a disc purchase and not a MAS purchase so I bought them again.

Well like I said here somewhere my DSL here is so far from the CO it took many hours but it finally happened. I did a Time Machine backup, made the Flash Drive installer and started the install.

Install went great and it booted into Mavericks. At first it was very slow. That is because the Indexing was running on all my drives and updates were checking. Once all that got done it's very fast, love the way so far it's managing RAM. VERY different than any OSX before with the Memory Compression. All my iWorks and a few other things updated with new versions.

I love Maps, It's so nice having that on my desktop system! The 3D view is stunning on the larger display!

Also love having iBooks there also as I have a few books and bibles on my devices I wanted on my Desktop. Works great,

Safari seems WAY better at managing RAM but it was late and I did not get to do much after all those updates! Will report back later.

Overall impressed so far. Late 2007 Early 2008 iMac.

BTW, don't try the Lion method of doing the flash drive or you will have an installer with no boot! Use the URL Charlie put in another thread. It works perfectly!

Interesting as I am sure mine were 09 also. Whatever it was it upgraded. :D Grin All my iLife was purchased from the App store so no issues there.

Yes, as you would have purchased yours from the App Store. It shows under purchased, and can be re downloaded, as I did. I doubt it is available to new purchasers now since Mavericks release.

The fixed (I say fixed because full screen has been broken since it was released) full screen functionality is awesome. I used it today and had no problem full screening a collaborative Google Doc while using my MacBook screen to do other things. This alone made the upgrade worth it (in terms of user facing features).

I finally installed the Mavericks.
I didn't make an install disk for it but I copied the install file to an external disk.
The installation went smooth, and when it said less than one minute left, it took about 10 minutes lol. The whole installation (except the download of course) took 46 minutes for me.
After I rebooted, I got 2 updates, which are iPhoto and iMovie, as you would expect.

Then after I think 15 minutes, I got a notification, saying that I have the right to download iWork. iWork being the suite I was this close to buy or at least download an illegal copy to check out, I started to download them as well.

And another notification saying "New in OS X Mavericks" just popped up as I was typing this.

I haven't taken a tour on my new OS, but as a person whose only Apple device is this 2013 MBA, the biggest change in UI that I wanted was tabs in Finder, and I still couldn't find a short way to open a tab. If I merge the windows, I can see the plus sign to open a new tab, but if I have only one folder open, I can't open another tab.

Well I think I'll need more reading. I read tons of stuff about 1 month ago because I just bought a computer with a different OS. Now I'll have to read because I have a newer version of the OS. At least that's how I feel.

Command-T or File > New Tab will do the job for you.

Now I don't have to read lol. Thanks man.

Something about the resolution changed? Or the screen? The icons, not only the Apple apps, but all of the icons look nice and more vivid now.

I just noticed now that Activity Monitor has an energy tab to track energy usage. It would seem that they use an contrived formula to measure usage. And, I now have a much greater sense of Chrome's inability to manage its power usage:

That third number is the "average energy impact." It's not even close to something like Firefox.

Nice find I would have gave you rep points but it says I had to spread it around which I have before I clicked on yours unless I have to rep several different posters before giving reps to the same poster odd don't remember that happening in the past.
