When it's downloading and before it's executed where will it be on my computer?

It will be in your Applications folder as: "Install OS X Mavericks.app"

What you're seeing when you press the download button is that the server is busy. Just press the download button once and wait it out. You can still use your machine during the time it's waiting. Of course if you're using a VPN the whole process may even be slower.

Downloaded, but will probably wait till this weekend to install. Too much going on right now to have the time to play with it.

40 minute download time here and installed and then updates for Aperture, iPhoto, iMovie, new iTunes and a half dozen other things.

I'm getting brave, only have current TM backup, my SD! backup is at least a month old.

Never even bothered to check if my Late '07 MacBook was compatible with Mountain Lion. Turns out that it isn't, and thus Mavericks is a no-go as well.

Oh well, Snow Leopard is doing just fine.

Peter the download should appear under LaunchPad including downloaded and how far to go also.

Got the dreaded 'Download Error' but there it was in the Applications Folder.

I've started the download. It's only taken about 20 minutes thus far and I'm just shy of 5GB...

Gotta love 50Mbps internet...

No probe mate. I like the Macworld one, as they give you a few options to take, but i went the Terminal way, and didn't use Lion Disk Maker. Old Skool like to make things a bit challenging lol

On the Thumb drives, i just had to grab the one from the Back of the TV, so ill be up for another 8GB today, but they are fairly cheap at the moment, and this is a Dolphin USB3 so everything happened quite quick. Dolphin ( not sure if you have heard of them over there) have been making some good USB Drives lately so i think ill get another one of theirs. Green this time ;P

Im all ready with it on my Thumb Drive, but i decided to download the Xcode update, and being 1.23GB I'm going to have to wait a little bit longer before i install it.
Well speaking of the Devil, here i go, going onto my SSD and will keep the MBP 750GB Slow Drive on Mountain Lion for now, as I'm using the SSD for all my Apps, and the 750 as the drive I'm writing to, and thats what TM backs up, so I'm going for a normal install and maybe a clean one later, so i can get my hands on it, update my Apps, and see what Aperture 3.5 has bought me :)

Just installed Mavericks. Took about an hour start to finish. No glitches. Now to poke around and see what's different.

This is because you probably have the 2008 2.4ghz MacBook. It cannot run Mountain Lion either (OS 10.8). Thus...no Mountain Lion = no Mavericks.

Some of you guys are VERY brave installing an OS upgrade so quickly...especially if we're talking someone's main computer.

Who knows what "early-adopter" glitches may be lurking!;)

LOL, I know that feeling.. I got used to 6 month role outs on Ubuntu, so this feel a lot more stable then those did/do..

I am still updating stuff. But only thing that gave me any issues was Avast not updated yet for 10.9, but thats really not a concern LOL.. That being said, graphics seem possibly a touch faster. The multi monitor support is huge improvement. Finally have full screen apps again.. YEA!!

Only real quirk I have is main menu bar still not hide able, even more so since I got two of them. One `50% transparent on none focus screen and normal one on the screen that has focus.

Important question. I'm running 10.6. Will any apps I have not run at all or not run correctly under 10.9? I'm thinking in particular of things like iPhoto and iMovie.

If no-one knows yet, that's fine. I just won't upgrade yet.

The only upgrade issue I had was the GPGMAIL plugin.

Lastly (i am just moaning now) the new iPad air (just an example) is $499 which is around around £307 BUT if i wish to buy an iPad air in the uk i have to spend £399 which is $648 how does that work out? I'm seriously considering alternitive computer next time around, although i don't know what, i dislike the new windows (8/8.1) a lot and haven't really used linux a great deal

You're not taking into account US sales tax. UK prices are quoted including VAT. US prices are quoted excluding sales tax as it varies state-to-state (US members correct me if I'm wrong). So using an average US sales tax of 7.5% we're still charged £60 more. But then companies selling in this country have higher business taxes too. But that's not an Apple-thing. That's a UK market-thing. It's the same for nearly all consumer electronics in the UK I'm afraid.

On the flip-side UK phone contracts are much better value.

Just updated OSX to Mavericks this morning (having a 120 Mbps connection does help). After download, it was a breeze to install it on my Macbook Pro 13” mid 2012 (with Mountain Lion installed). Al though during the process it would say ”1 minute left” which actually took 10 minutes.... but thats just a detail.

Once installed, I went to the Mac Appstore, and updated iPhoto,iTunes and some other apps and deactivated automatic download/installs.. Strange detail: after these apps were installed the icons changed in the App folder, but not on the dock. I dragged the old icons out, and replaced them with the new ones.

I also updated Pages/Numbers/Keynote (and these are the only 3 pirated apps I ever downloaded, I know I am a bad person lol), and it allowed me to update to the latest versions even when I did not even buy the original ones.

Apart from this: all other apps are still working, activated iCloud keychain, and no documents/files were lost during the update.

Being aware of the problems that came to light with latest iOS updates, could someone post details of how to prepare for, and re-install Mountain Lion, should the need arise in the near future. Thank you.

Belt and braces Sawday. I will be updating my hard drive carbon copy cloner clone, and if I didn't already done so, I would have re downloaded the 10.8.5 installer first.

I'm raring to go, time on my hands as I've just got out of hospital after having my left hip replaced, yet my Mavericks download started at 7am still has 5hrs 29 mins to run. I'm just about to dump my existing ISP, moving to BT Infinity, should have done it earlier.

Is the 10.8.5 installer still available?
