It was a small dent. the Toshiba drives are not flat, and have pretty cheap housing. It seems like wobbly steel, i could dent it with my finger. A small part of the ridge on the drive is pushed down. So it's like last time, but now it makes an obnoxious buzzing. I fixed the dent, but it still does it.

There's no dent in the MB itself, but if you rest your elbow on the wrist rest (hard to say), or even with a light press with your hand, you can hear the ODD grind if there's a disk inside. :(

I am not old enough to ever use a typewriter (i'm 4 years older then your daughter) but i've always known what a typewriter was. I think its one of those things that people will not forget.

many years from now, it will be like the abacus, people will buy models.

I typed a lot of papers in university on a typewriter. I don't miss them. I love being able to freely edit what I type these days.

Of course I also used a slide rule in high school, but the first calculators were appearing when I was in Grade 12 and I got one right away!

...and what about programming on punched cards??? :D I did that too, for my first two years at university. At end of term, all the students who hated programming would throw their card decks out the windows of the upper floors of the residences, creating a sort of programming confetti/ticker tape parade for all passing below...

My first personal computer was a Commodore 64. It had this neat writing software on a cassette called "Write Now" You had to code and format everything line by line... literally. And 64 kb of memory was just awesome!!!!(tic)

You want to feel old? How about learning to write programs by keypunching Hollerith cards through a keypunching machine, then feeding them through a card reader, (preceded by a compiler on Hollerith cards, of course). And if you had problems with your coding, wait to see a fan printout that you could go over line by line. You knew who the "computer geeks" were instantly... you know.... those guys with the shoe boxes full of computer cards in their arms?

My first experience with Apple computers was also a loooong time ago. An Apple II running CP/M. We didn't have "PCs" at the time... we had MS DOS based Microcomputers with their line item commands. I have to admit that I enjoyed seeing consumer and prosumer personal computers grow.

I don't mind it so much, except for having to remove it from the places where I don't want it to be (like my driveway, and walkways). That's a drag. I have a snowblower of course, but it only goes so far.

Melbourne is not bad. I've flown in there a couple times. Prefer Vero Beach. But driving from Melbourne to Vero is no fun ~ 35 mph all the way!

Well, i'm in michigan and its more or less the same. Our high is 16 but with windchill and all its been REALLY cold. At 7AM when i was walking this morning the windchill was below zero. My fingers were so cold i could have easily cried. lol. It was windy too.
