I asked my daughter to give me the phone book. She laughed at me, called me a dinosaur, and handed me her iphone. So... the spider is dead, the iPhone is broken and my daughter is pissed.

Some people don't know that 'Yelp' is short for 'Yellow Pages', and some of them wouldn't even know what those are!.

You can add me to that list as I sure didn't know that Yelp provide some web page services and help in Canadian localities it is basically an American company that develops the Yelp.com website.

The Canadian Yellow Pages still seems to exist but certainly doesn't provide the services that used to and their advertising was very expensive for most clients.

As for the mother and the spiders situation and any requests for a phone book, I'm surprised she hadn't taught her daughter to capture and release such beneficial insects outside where they can still do some good and provide some benefits. 😉

This, from Wikipedia:

Stoppelman explained that they decided on "Yelp" for the company's name because "it was short, memorable, easy to spell, and was familiar with 'the help' and 'yellow pages'".

You are quoting USA Yellow pages, not UK:

Thank goodness, you've posted Jim because I'm also ignorant of the joke in this. We need to be guided by our transatlantic colleagues.

Saw this on FB, and didn't understand it there, and being over 70, I would have thought that was adult enough 🤣, so is it a USA joke, please expand for us less intelligent :)

It references Abbott and Costello, who did a very famous comedy routine called "Who's On First." It was first performed on the radio in 1938, but it was so iconic, that they keep on routinely performing the routine into the 1960's. The routine is about baseball. Here it is:

I'm quite surprised their baseball skit didn't travel across the pond to the UK and I always thought their radio skit was far better than the video versions they did later on.
Here's a radio version for anybody who wants to review it:

I can tell you - as a Brit - that I've known Who's On First? for very many years and never get tired of listening to it! Anyone who doesn't know this should just type Who's On First into YouTube search and it will be there...

Why!! You may not get tired of it, but my life is to short to search unknown trivia.

Okay; I'll have to be honest and face embarrassment: I understand the Abbot & Costello Link. It's funny and fine.

But please tell me the link between them and the picture. What am I missing?

The guy in the meme is named "Hu" (pronounced: "Who"). His name in on his back. He's on a base on a baseball field. One can assume that Hu (Who) is on first base. It's a reference to "Who's on first?".

Nothing to do with your question, but some interesting background information. The "Who's on first" comedy routine wasn't written by Abbott and Costello. It had been around for years before they first did the routine, and it had been done by several vaudeville comedians. However, Abbott and Costello perfected the routine, mainly by interjecting superb comedy timing and acting.

Many thanks Randy. I get it know.

I was a childhood fan of Abbot & Costello which featured frequently on a Saturday morning when children got into a ABC Minors Cinema for next to nothing and were awarded with all the (Now) old time favourites:

Like: D-i-c-k Rider, the original Superman, The Lone Ranger, Robin Hood, Flash Gordon, Zorro, Roy Rogers, Sea Scouts etc. Most were in Black & White, occasionally colour. Plus the adverts of course.

Thanks again.

Yes, when I was a young child, my mother would send me with my two older cousins to the Saturday matinee at the local movie theater. We'd spend the entire day there seeing a bunch of movie serials and grade B movies. Abbott and Costello movies were favorites. But we also saw many of the same movies that you did. I remember being so scared during a Wolfman movie that I hid under my seat and didn't look at the screen! I used to love the Rocketeer serials!

Under your seat -:ROFLMAO: - Me too.

Not only that, but other pics. Thanks for responding to my post. What I find here is that be it in the UK or the USA or Canada, we enjoyed a similar experience as youngsters and even adults.
