I have been receiving this msg on my iPhone 8+ for a few days. Does this mean my battery is failing? "This iPhone has experienced an unexpected shutdown because the battery was unable to deliver the
necessary peak power. Performance Management has been applied to prevent this from happening again,"
Can I replace the battery myself or do I need to take it to an Apple approved store?'ll check to see if there is a U-Tube video on line. Can I get the battery from a third party or do I have to get it from Apple. I know my iPhone 8+ is old, but it meets my needs. Should I just buy a new iPhone? Miney is not an issue.

Hi Pete - you can check the status of the phone's battery with Coconut Battery, a free download, if you have an Apple computer for the app - just checked my iPhone 14 and results shown below - the important stats are 'battery health' and 'cycles' - if your battery is dropping below 80% health and cycles above 500, then a replacement or a new iPhone is warranted - check iFixit for the cost and difficulty for a DIY fix - of course, others, such as Apple, could do the replacement - BUT in all honesty, get a new phone. Replacing the battery yourself is tricky to say the least, just getting it apart requires a specialised suction device. Having the battery replaced on the other hand from any number of little phone repairers is pretty cheap. You may not get a "genuine" Apple battery but considering the age of the phone a reasonable third party one is probably all it's worth spending and will probably last the phone out. A genuine Apple iPhone battery would set me back over AU$100.
RadDave is probably right, time for a new phone. The new entry level iPhone 16e is fantastic, I traded my old iPhone 13 Pro Max in on one, in the USA it's just under $600 for 128GB.

I d0 have Coconut Battey on my Mid 2011 27" iMac I think or maybe my iPad. Could not find it in the App Store and Google wouldn't download it. Never mind. My battery max capacity is 52%. But it does fully charge.
I'll buy a new one. Suggestions which model and size? 256 GB seems more than enough for me and I like a phone with a larger screen. Heard the new phones don't have a Home button. Is Apple thinking of bringing it back? So, large screen, 256 GB What's there newest model to meet that? And when will Apple introduce to next iPhone? Next year? I can wait til then or not.

Pete; I get the larger screen thing but I've found 128GB to be plenty over the last 3 iPhones but if you're an avid photographer, like my wife, 256GB may be necessary but it does push the price up a bit. Still better too much than not enough.

Agree Rod. And thanks for the info on the new models coming in Sept. I'd like to
get the largest display at 6.9" but the Pro Max is just too much tech for my needs. So I'll probably go with the 6.6" model Pro. I think that's the same size as my 8+.

Hi again Pete - Coconut Battery is not available in the App store but can be downloaded from their website that I linked in case others are interested; I upgraded to (one time purchase) v. 4+ which offers Wi-Fi connections to your iDevices (a major convenience) - there is no iOS/iPadOS app.

Wife and I are in the market for new iPhones (usually skip a model or two) - I've liked the ones with 6" or so size screens and am looking forward to dumping the lightning connector - in fact Apple is thinking of dropping the connection port but the EU has influence (others - please correct me if mistaken since only saw a rumor). I currently have 128 GB storage which is only a third filled, so will either stick with that amount or go to 256 GB. And forget the 'home button', went with the dodo bird. Dave

I'm not sure about that particular model of iPhone and replace its battery but if you are not the type to do so, some places will do it for virtually nothing, and as for replacing it check out the features of a newer phone and to see if it is worthwhile you're doing so. New and improved isn't always the case that seems in my experience.
And usually means of Fairly large expenditure that may not be warranted. Your choice your situation.

Lots of battery replacement places in your area it seems:

Take your choice... 😊 🥳

Yep, little places that cut keys and repair or replace watch batteries are where I usually went for older iPhone battery replacement.

C'mon Guys, Pete needs a new iPhone - can be used and refurbished and not necessarily the iPhone 17, but an upgrade is his best choice. Dave :)

Really? Just because it provided a message notification but the battery is getting weak and probably needs replacing. And he's already stated "[he] knows the iPhone 8+ is old, but it meets [his] needs. But I did catch your tongue-in-cheek smiley. ;-) 😉 🥳

If he is happy with what he has, doesn't need extra whistles and bells, then why not stay with what you have and like.

Well Ian, the comment was in jest, so should have left a winky emoji - yea my iPhone 14 is still in great shape but I hope to get some kind of deal this fall when I trade up to a 17? Dave

P.S. apropos to funny emojis, I'm wearing the tee shirt below as I type - :ROFLMAO:

Guys, Guys, Guys I am definitely getting an iPhone 17. 128GB. Either the basic iPhone17, which would satisfy everything I need, except a bigger screen, or the Pro.
Now to another question I posted on this forum but have received no answer to. What's the Icon(?) that is a black square with a white circle inside that is on my iPhone. It becomes opaque but still remains on the screen and can be moved all over. When I press the white center, 7 options appear: NOTIFICATION CENTER, SCREENSHOT, DEVICE, CONTRO CEMTER, HOME, SIRI, and CUSTOM.
It seems lie an electronic HOME button for those iPhones that did away with the Physical Home button.
I don't know since I have never looked at any iPhone but my 8+. Don't think I'm supposed to have it but how do I get rof it I am runningIOS 16.7.11. Any ideas
/Pete

Maybe this could be the explanation for its existence:

AI Overview
The icon that is a black square with a white circle inside, that often fades when not in use, is likely AssistiveTouch. It's an accessibility feature on iPhones designed to help users with physical limitations by providing an on-screen button for various actions.
To turn off AssistiveTouch:

Pete - not sure what iOS version is on your phone, but to 'turn off' assistive touch, got into Settings > Accessibility > AssistiveTouch which can be toggle on or off - also an explanation there. Dave

Hey, I can take a screenshot of my phone, using there SCREENSHOT function on the opaque square. That's cool.. Maybe I'll keep whatever this issues I have an electronic HOME button and my physical Home button. Under DEVICE I can adjust the ringer level and other things. Cool.
