I have been receiving this msg on my iPhone 8+ for a few days. Does this mean my battery is failing? "This iPhone has experienced an unexpected shutdown because the battery was unable to deliver the
necessary peak power. Performance Management has been applied to prevent this from happening again,"
Can I replace the battery myself or do I need to take it to an Apple approved store?'ll check to see if there is a U-Tube video on line. Can I get the battery from a third party or do I have to get it from Apple. I know my iPhone 8+ is old, but it meets my needs. Should I just buy a new iPhone? Miney is not an issue.

Hi Pete - you can check the status of the phone's battery with Coconut Battery, a free download, if you have an Apple computer for the app - just checked my iPhone 14 and results shown below - the important stats are 'battery health' and 'cycles' - if your battery is dropping below 80% health and cycles above 500, then a replacement or a new iPhone is warranted - check iFixit for the cost and difficulty for a DIY fix - of course, others, such as Apple, could do the replacement - BUT in all honesty, get a new phone. Replacing the battery yourself is tricky to say the least, just getting it apart requires a specialised suction device. Having the battery replaced on the other hand from any number of little phone repairers is pretty cheap. You may not get a "genuine" Apple battery but considering the age of the phone a reasonable third party one is probably all it's worth spending and will probably last the phone out. A genuine Apple iPhone battery would set me back over AU$100.
RadDave is probably right, time for a new phone. The new entry level iPhone 16e is fantastic, I traded my old iPhone 13 Pro Max in on one, in the USA it's just under $600 for 128GB.

I d0 have Coconut Battey on my Mid 2011 27" iMac I think or maybe my iPad. Could not find it in the App Store and Google wouldn't download it. Never mind. My battery max capacity is 52%. But it does fully charge.
I'll buy a new one. Suggestions which model and size? 256 GB seems more than enough for me and I like a phone with a larger screen. Heard the new phones don't have a Home button. Is Apple thinking of bringing it back? So, large screen, 256 GB What's there newest model to meet that? And when will Apple introduce to next iPhone? Next year? I can wait til then or not.

Pete; I get the larger screen thing but I've found 128GB to be plenty over the last 3 iPhones but if you're an avid photographer, like my wife, 256GB may be necessary but it does push the price up a bit. Still better too much than not enough.
