I've been wondering what Apple is going to charge for the 10.6 full install / universal install. They don't seem to list it at the store yet...just the "Box Set" which includes iWork 09 & iLife 09.

Wondering if the price will remain $129 like 10.5...or if it's going to increase.

You did not understand my question. $29 dollars is just the 10.6 update price.

As far as I understand...this is NOT a full install disk. You need to have OS 10.5 installed before using the $29.95 10.6 update disk.

In other words...if you currently have OS 10.4 installed on a computer...you CANNOT insert this $29.95 update disk...and expect to be updated to OS 10.6.

The $29.95 10.6 update...is NOT a stand alone installation DVD.

I'm thinking they may not have one. It's either the upgrade or the Box Set.
I'd be one that would consider the stand alone full version. But, even I would have a hard time spending $129 when you get iLife and iWork for the extra $40.

You state "as far as I understand." However, is that actually the case? This could very well be a full install disc. We won't know for certain until somebody gets their hands on a copy.

I think that would be sort of unusual to not have a full install only DVD...but who knows it's still early after the 10.6 announcement.

But I agree...$169 for 10.6 full install, iWork 09, and iLife 09...is a pretty good deal!

Maybe since we are 3/4 thru 2009...this is Apples way of getting rid of a lot of iLife 09 & iWork 09 disks (and get $40 bucks for them)...before 2009 is over..and it's 2010.;D

The statement "As far as I understand"...is a diplomatic & polite way of saying that there is a 99.9999% chance that the $29.95 10.6 disk is only an update...not a full install.

Apple is also selling a 10.6 box set for $169...which includes a full install of OS 10.6, iWork 09, and iLife 09.

Why would someone pay $169 for these 3 programs...if the 10.6 $29.95 disk was a full install?

But here is how you know that it is not a full install (from the system requirements on the Apple website)...quote:

"Upgrading from Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger. If your Intel-based Mac is running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, purchase the Mac Box Set, which is a single, affordable package that includes Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard; iLife ’09, with the latest versions of iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, and iDVD; and iWork ’09, Apple’s productivity suite for home and office including Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.

Believe me...I would love the $29.96 10.6 update disk to be a full install!!!:)

Not yet. I need a new Superdrive in my iMac first and I'm waiting for a settlement check to come in so I can purchase a Macbook and a new Superdrive for the iMac.

All I need is a hex wrench to crack open the iMac, right? It's a 20-inch aluminum model.

No, you need Torx wrench. T6 and T8 I believe.

That was a post I made elsewhere that was moved here by the moderators here. So it is very out of context.

I understand where you're coming from, though regardless of how sure you are, you don't know for sure unless you have some inside info.

Your logic regarding the $169 pack makes no sense. That price includes three pieces of software and the reason Tiger users are encouraged to purchase it is because it's very unlikely that they have the latest versions of iLife and iWork as opposed to Leopard users, who got iLife 09 with their machines.

Mine is on Pre-Order and should be with me by the 28th.

I am going to plunge straight in. I will however clone my HDD before the upgrade so that I can roll it back conveniently if I am not happy.

:)

That's a great idea. I will probly do it up with carbon copy cloner and keep a copy of pre 10.6

As far as the inside information...maybe I do, maybe I don't!;D

As far as the $169 10.6 Mac Box set. Of course my logic makes sense. Not only are Tiger users encouraged to buy the "10.6 box set"...they MUST purchase it because it contains the "full install DVD" of 10.6!!! If someone does not have 10.5 install disks...then they must purchase the "10.6 Box Set"

The $29.95 "10.6" is an "updater" disk...NOT a full install.

Again...there are two main paths to OS 10.6:

1. If you're a 10.4 user...then you need to purchase the $169 10.6 Box Set.
2. If you're a 10.5 user...then all you need to purchase is the $29.95 10.6 update disk.

Of course if you're a 10.5 user, and you want the full install of 10.6 + iLife 09 + iWork 09...then these folks could buy the $169 10.6 Box Set as well.

Finally...if you're a 10.4 user...you could purchase 10.5 @ $129 + 10.6 upgrade disk @ $29.95 which comes to roughly $160 bucks.

Surprise, surprise that's only $9.00 cheaper than the 10.6 Mac Box Set...so of course folks are going to buy the box set instead...because if you go this route...you're basically getting iWork & iLife 09 for just $9.00 more!!!

Disagree if you want...but on Friday or Saturday when folks start getting their 10.6 items...you will see that I was correct back on Tuesday!;D

It does look impressive with what there doing with Snow Leopard.

I will be taking the plunge and only $39 AUD i think is a bloody good deal. Coming from this side of the world we will be the 1st to try it out.

Its how our local Authorized Reseller is pushing it.
Not that i want to blow the wind up anyone hehe ;)

68 hrs and counting

Might be only a small contribution to around the 300 things they have made better

But the fact u can PUT BACK a single file from trash and delete what u want is a great update to the OS
O:)

I just purchased my iMac this month and I'm not that farmiliar about OS updates. I'm use to Windows, where I traditional wait until the bugs are worked out of the new operating system. Is this the case with upgrades in the OS operating system? I really want to upgrade to Snow Leopard, biggest reason, because it is so cheap. Thanks!

Take Care and May God Bless!

I will be upgrading if not already installed.
Not sure what I would do should I have files and data on the machine and I wanted to upgrade.
