It has to do with how your interoceter is set, relative to certain atmospheric conditions.

I see a lot of references to repairing permissions - please elaborate.

What is the "combo update" vs. the regular one? I guess I got the combo one, since it was large, but what is in it vs. the 180 MB version that many people got?

I see a lot of references to repairing permissions - please elaborate.

There are two contexts:

1) Some folks like to download the full combo update rather than use the software update utility in the Apple menu. Prior to running the update they choose to repair permissions on the boot/installation drive so as to decrease the chance of messing up something during update.

2) There was an issue with Leopard which caused repairing permissions to take a long time or not complete at all.

If I were to venture a guess, most people are talking about 2.

Any other thoughts?

Just a Tip for 10.5.2

You guys don't have to do it this way but I usually download it from there site and use the installer.app to load it on my computer. It always for me works better than the Software Update.app. After i reboot and everything then I repair permissions just in case. So far I have not had problem.

****Also I saw the Remote Disk icon in the Utilities folder. Can you use it for a macbook non air or desktop. Just wondering.****

What you're referring to is called the Combo Update. This is often used by those for whom Software Update fails in some way.

my girlfriend's update was 340MB. Why are some 180 and some 340? She had 10.5.1 prior to the update...

She obviously appreciates the merits of a decent sized upgrade ;)

[EDIT] oooer... my Dock suddenly decided to go on holiday.... it VANISHED!!!. I had to do a "killall Dock" to find it again. How odd.

Is there anyway to rollback to 10.5.1? I'm experiencing what may be a bug since updating to 10.5.2.

Every 5 - 10 minutes, Airport will start scanning for new networks, and while it does this it disconnects from my internet connection. This takes about 30 seconds to 2 minutes each time, where it will not reconnect to my router. It is rather annoying.

Phew! That was a close call - it got "stuck" at patching files, 1/3 of the way through, for about 25 minutes. I nearly thought about turning it off, then it came to life again. I see a new Time Machine logo - would be good if I could use TM with my external drive now!

Did a run of Xbench

10.5.1 score of 112
10.5.2 score of 116

Have not compared the two. This diff could be due to running the 10.5.1 from my Superduper external backup drive on FW800. Would think that the read, write and cache times would be a little slower to account for that difference.

Is Xbench even reliable at all?? I heard it wasn't so I never tried it myself. I just downloaded it and ran it 2 times back-to-back. The first time I got an overall of 91. The second time I got a 106. That's just way too big of a variance to make a judgement on actual performance. At best, you would have to run it several times and take an average, I suppose.

Sorry this is a little OT.

Anyone noticed that the pop up and drop down menus are not so transparent? More like opaque? **** it. They looked so good. Now almost like Tiger. I hope there's a third party hack for this...
