I've recently updated both Office and OS X which itself included an Office 2016 specific fix. Since then, it's been rock solid and the weird graphical issues and crashing issues have basically been remedied. Can I take it lori5060 that the bulk of complaints had to do with crashing on El Capitan?

As stated by our Admin "vansmith" the problems with Mac Office 2016 have been remedied by an MS update and an update of El Capitan (10.11.1). The only thing that remains is a promise from MS that a future update will include being able to modify the "Ribbon" and menu bar same as the Windows version of Office 2016. And by the way, several US suppliers are now selling Mac Office 2016 Home and Student for $139.99 (check with MacMall and Amazon).

That's the minimum subscription price for the "personal" version and not the stand alone version.

So I assume then that they actually meant to say it's $9.95 /per month, so why don't they say so or give some better details!!

That'll definitely be a pass for me. But thanks for the info.

Very vague. I wonder if it is an attpemt to charge for an update as it does say Version 15.15?

Note it does say for the update you do need Office 365 say also may be a conversion charge. Thought Office 2016 would be f.o.c. for 365 users?

Yup, vague and confusing!!

I'm not even going to bother trying to sort any of it out… not worth it or even needed for any of my use, other than some curiosity as to how MS is doing their updated office stuff these days.

found several sites where one could get office 2011 but non are Mac or Microsoft. Being a newbie and I was told to be very careful downloading from third parties.
So I am little stumped. Wuld you have idea of where I could possibly try to get a valid copy of office 2011 for Mac?

Vansmith... Reading reviews from users helps me decide as to which software to purchase tho while I do not take ALL as gospel as we all have our own levels of acceptance..... I prefer not to spend the $$$ unless I am confident that it will suit my needs and level of experience.
El captain crashing is only part of the hesitation.

Amazon still shows the disc version as being available. See here. The download versions are showing as unavailable.

So far, macupdate.com continues to be a legit site that doesn't add "extras", and office 2011 seems to be available for download but I don't know how the payment works:
http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/7884/microsoft-office-2011

EDIT:

It seems that some of those downloads from macupdate.com are updates only. Makes sense from the site name I guess. ;)

They must be "crazy" charging $190.00 for the single install version of Office 2011, Home and Student. I paid $150.00 for the 3 x install version from Newegg but that's been some time ago. Note also that Amazon is charging $136.00 for 2016 stand alone version - but that is a key card and download from MS only.

I agree but I guess that vendor knows folks are over a barrel so to speak.

Yes I agree that vendors have us over a barrel. I can find updates to office 2011 at an outrageous cost but no original copy. Even tho office 2016 has apparently been updated to fix some bugs, I still am hesitant for now to purchase anything.
Eventually bugs will be ironed out and I can wait for that to happen.

In meantime I will use Windows word until such time a good working copy of word for Mac is available!

This was on the page. What's vague about that?
Note: an office365 subscription is required.

I'll put in a word here for the Office365 subscription. Originally I wasn't enthusiastic about paying $7/month, but when I ran the numbers, it does work out okay. The fact that the subscription gets me the most current version automatically is kind of nice. When I don't need Word anymore (yeah, right), I can drop the subscription.

The standalone copy of Microsoft Office for Mac does **not** require a 365 subscription, though of course it is strongly encouraged. You should expect that going forward, the next version of Office (if they even make a standalone one after this) will require it.

If that was a reply to my post, you misunderstand. I was responding to post #43 from pm-r and the following discussion with harryb2448 through post #47 about the website with the link in post #43 being confusing. Sorry for making it confusing for you.

You are correct, if you buy it, you don't need the subscription service.
