why is itunes such a piece of crap software program..???? If only winamp made a production copy for mac, at least songbird will be out soon.. does anyone know how to stop itunes from multiply copies of every song i insert into it ???? and how to delete the ones already there aside from deleting them one at a time??

-thanks

"..itunes the only thing i hate about Mac"

as many others have pointed out this is a user error issue and not an itunes issue.

I've now managed to copy all my previous files to itunes but I still couldn't get seneti to copy stuff without first creating copy of all files somewhere else, even when dragging files straight to itunes. I've been using iTunes on PC and I do know how to use it although I never liked it. It's just that using Seneti creates loads of copies and its annoying. I know how to set import/ripping etc settings and it doesn't help. So it's more of Seneti's problem I guess. If anyone knows how to use it then please let me know.

I reckon the problem here is the same one that Win/OSX switchers have.

I never used Winamp, or any other management program. I started with Itunes, and have never had any complaints about it. The reason is probably because I never had to un-learn any other program. I had no expectations for how Itunes would work.

It's the same as switchers. They can find OSX annoying because they know how to do things in Windows, and OSX does them differently. If they didn't know how to do them in the first place, there's nothing to get annoyed about.

I'm pretty sure if I switched to Winamp, I'd find a lot of faults. But they wouldn't be faults, they're just thing that don't work the way I'm used to.

I'd suggest stick with it for a little longer. Once you're used to it, you'll be OK. Millions of people use it without problems, so it's unlikely there's anything fundamentally wrong with it.

You didn't need Senuti from what I googled up: Geek to Live: How to move an iTunes library from a PC to Mac (and back).

I stopped using WinAmp after about version 3 because it became so bloated. I agree that it was a great lightweight media player up until that point however.

Still, whatever frustrations you may have with iTunes, be thankful you're not stuck using Windows Media Player. I stopped using that after they embedded IE because of the risk of spyware infections (and because it too became a bloated piece of garbage). I recently picked up an Archos 704 (much bigger screen and far more video formats than the iPod) which requires WMP for adding music (if you want the artwork). After performing a so-called upgrade to WMP 11 and plugging in my device, I realised just what a beautiful piece of work iTunes is. WMP is so ugly and cumbersome to use that I feel sorry for anyone with a device (such as a Creative Zen) that requires it.

One could argue that iTunes is bloated (because of the support for video, webkit for accessing the store and so on), but iTunes doesn't feel bloated to me. Windows Media Player does. What a pig.

yes this is a user issue and i still prefer winamp.. i think it is quite funny how one opinion though misguided or not can inspire such angst and meaningless argument and debate.. obviously personal preferences and beliefs are not encouraged or welcome on this board..

There are Applescripts that will do what you want. They are free, easy to install and easy to use. I have over 84,000 tracks in iTunes and it doesn't make any duplicates of anything unless I tell it to, so I am not sure what you are talking about. Perhaps you simply need to learn how to use the software as designed, it's not very hard.

Those 84,000 tracks must have put a huge dent in your wallet.

Oh please, stop being dramatic and disingenuous. If you had left out the part about it being "crap" you might have gotten some honest feedback. In all fairness you got better treatment than you probably deserved based on the content of your OP. The fact is you came trolling with that comment and now your going to try and act like the injured party. Not gonna work. Personal opinions are welcome, trolling isn't.

The "CRAP" part got to me but even after people here explained how to turn those features off, it was still being called that and like we were all wrong. All the posters here were helpful and told him and the others what to do to address those issues.

If you rip a CD to iTunes, it tells you up front if there are duplicates existing in the Library already and "replace" or not.

If you have duplicates, they were downloaded from somewhere else that's likely illegal.

hey baggs if the software worked so well why must i download extra software to utilize the program the way i want, winamp doesn't need that !!!
-later

That's pretty ironic, considering iTunes and AppleScript are both provided as part of Tiger, whereas Winamp is a 3rd party application. To manage files effectively for Winamp, you have to spend hours in Windows Explorer - so you could say Winamp is 'incomplete' using your logic...

Most people who complain about iTunes and also iPhoto for duplicating stuff, are people who still feel th eneed to use 'explorer' (Finder) to manage their files, rather than using the app correctly.

I have some sympathy, that the Mac is not exactly flush with 3rd party music applications, but the reasons for that is there is no demand for people trying to get away from iTunes... unlike Media Player.

It's in it's seventh version, it's been complete since <2001.

It took me a while to learn. I used to manage all my music in *LimeWire* on the PC (not illegally, though, from CD's). I hated iTunes, until I downloaded it and gave it a good try. I've been using it since version 4 or something, and now I love it. Give it time :)

They are spread across 4 separate external drives in a single USB-2 8 bay case. My Movies are on a separate SATAII internal Hard drive, my TV shows are on 2 internal SATAII drives and Music Videos are on a drive in the external case.

All told the music takes 400Gb out of 1.3Tb of available space. Lots of room to expand.
