Why did ya'll switch to mac??

I wanted a laptop, but I didn't have time to install/configure/admin Linux or FreeBSD on one. So OS X on iBook was natural choice.

Small size and long battery life were also important.

I'm still running AMD + Slackware on desktop and OpenBSD on firewall machine. I don't think I'll ever completely switch.

Still waiting for my new 12" g4 ibook.. But the reason I went with it is primarily because I wanted a unix back-end with effective power management, in a small, easy to carry package. That I could also use for reports, and what--not is a definite bonus. Also, I think Apple is about the only desktop hardware I haven't owned at one point or other in my life, and I figure it's about time I finally give it a shot.

i've been using them ever since i could type.. the same 600MHz G3 imac never had a problem with it..but it wasn't untill this year that i really started appreciating macs i just liked the way they operate, instead of entering a bunch of commands to change the desktop pic you just open system prefs and click on what you want. i am the only one out of all my freinds who likes macs and even a few of my freinds are turning now. The only thing i don't like about macs is Batttlefeild 1942 and Counter strke other than that macs are perfect for what i do

I still use PC, but I do most of my designing on the Mac because it is the required by the college. Macs are cool.

Ummm. It works pretty much the same way on Windows and Linux (KDE and I'd assume Gnome too). Though in OS X it's slightly more intuitive.

OS X is overall much more intuitive and simpler that Windows. Try to find network settings on Windows XP Home edition. It's scattered all around the place and there are weird wizards that confuse you on your way. And you have to reboot every now and then. Took me 30 minutes to find what I wanted and I had used XP Pro before. On OS X the same thing took me less than a minute and I had never used a Mac before.

Well i swiched after using the devils machine for many year and it just got me down always having to repair and reinstall windowz , all them viruses and dodgy software that simply would not work . so .....I SAW THE LIGHT ONE sunny day last july and have been in heaven ever since , might be old now but i love my Apple iBook g3 800 640mb/30gb airport . and if it was'nt for that church roof that needs replacing again, i would go straight out and buy one of them G5's.are now that is GOD's work , could always try and turn bread and wine into a G5 mmmm

Well, the main thing that had always turned me off about macs (and still does kind of) is the fact that they are so much more expensive than a comparable PC and not faster in day to day performance. I have always been told that even though the advertised speeds are slower, macs still are faster.I hope I'm not starting something here, but even when I went to purchase the new Imac g4 that i have now. The salesman could not open garageband. It took ten minutes to open and finally had to get an update and close and reboot the machine. It really made me wonder about the switch. On my old p4 2.4 Dell, it was extremely fast for web browsing and photoshop. My new 1ghz Imac g4 is not near as fast at opening programs or web sufing. The resolution of the screen is better in the imac but I'd have to say I am a little dissappointed with the performance versus my old windows machine. Is something wrong here with my Imac?

GarageBand is part of the iLife '04 package. You would have to purchase iLife. Include in the package is Garageband, iDVD, iTunes, iPhoto and iMovie.

If your Mac is brand new you should have it. Look in your applications folder... if it's not there then yeah, you have to buy it. (It's only $50)

I switched, well, I ordered the machine monday and it's not year yet (Saturday) because of my need for a machine that won't crap out and spontaniously reboot because of the Blue Screen of Death (BSD)

I record live concerts for a living and I'm quite familiar with HD and PC based recording from my studio equipment, but I had nothing small and portable to take with me to location gigs.

I still use DA-88's and DAT. Yes, I still use DAT.

As soon as the machine arrives, I will hopefully never need to buy tape again. Sadly I will still run tape as a backup, because that would be foolish. Every piece of equipment can burp. It's just a matter of when. My track record so far has been good. 6 years and 400+ concerts with only 1 concert full of burps... That was the last straw... That and tape machines requiring $150 of service every 6 months just to keep running, plus $20 of tape per concert.

At home, I can easily ask the client to play the track again after a BSD and reboot. But at a live show, you only get one kick at the can. I can't afford to drop a beat.

I switched to Mac cause it's by far the best. I even put Linux on my old doz box so it won't go to waste!

I already visited the apple store and took a look to the iBooks and PowerBooks

The reason I'm getting an iBook this time instead of a PC is because I don't want to spend time configuring and installing programs programs hardware I also remember the bad times I had with viruses

I haven't had a home computer for few years and I want to keep it simple this time, you know, enjoy it
The iBook looks cool, the software (iLife) is just what I want, UNIX based is great for future projects (Going back to faculty), it is kind of affortable now

Eek! Blue Screen of Death is "BSoD".... BSD is a Unix sort of OS that OS X is built on.

Reminds me of when I used to think websites kept getting attacked by MS-DOS, before I learned Denial of Service....

I like to try different OS. Aqua was very interesting. Plus, with unix stuff you can't go wrong. Now if I can get the Unix stuff to work the way I want....

2) I'm into writing, and I'll be taking a journalism course this fall. The course labs are all done in mac. Knowing mac is an essencail tool for the media business. Mac's dominate the media world. Mac's have Quark express. It has Word. It has Adobe products (like photoshop, etc). It has Finalcut (just in cause I want to do edit video journalism projects). And it has virtual PC for those times when I have to use windows. Mac has all of the tools I need for my career choice, and more.

YUP now try iPhoto! Like the rest of Mac - It is just better. Simple as that! I was a winbloz user since 96! No more!

Hi all, I switched too because I got tired of security updates that constantly required changes to WinXP thus resulting in web pages not loading, java not working, etc... i just got tired of fixing M$ mistakes.

I've been a casual Linux user for the past few years and didn't realize until recently that OS X is based on BSD

The actual straw that broke my back however was when I visited my brother and the hotel I stayed at had free highspeed internet, wouldn't you know it 5 minutes after having my XP laptop plugged in someone had already hacked the darn thing and caused so much damage I had to reload the OS

So now I'm the proud owner of 2 iBooks and my main PC at home is running Mandrake 10.0.

I'm still new to mac as it is, but the convert is easier because of my linux experiance... which to say isn't high, but enough to get what I want accomplished.
