I'm new to this site, I havn't even used a Mac (execpt for shuting down one) yet! I now have a laptop with XP. I've been using Windows and along and have NEVER even used another OS. The thing is, i'm sure OSX is great, but I never had any probs with XP. LOTS N LOTS of trouble with my previous IBM running Win 98SE, but that was probably due to the fact a virus attacted My Hard dirve to such an extent, I had to replace my harddrive (probably compadibility problem). So really, I have no reason to switch.

I switched because I got fed up with all the MS BS security issues. I shouldn't have to install a "service pack" immediately after buying something and I shouldn't have to reboot after every little change. Plus, I don't want to deal with all the virus issues. My iBook just works.

Well then... it does what you need.. no reason to switch then :) But you wouldn't be here if you were not curious about them.. Someday it would be fun to try one out.. go to your local Apple dealer and just play with one, then you'll know really if you have no reason to switch :)

I bought my first Mac because my computer science program required it, due to the Unix core. Little did I know that I would completely fall in love with it and ditch Windows as my primary OS. I'm now going to buy a new G5 once they're upgraded at the WWDC this July.

I was sick of my PC always running down. I was sick of spending time trying to get my computer to just work, and sick of spending so much money on extras to get it working. Sick of buying parts to fix it, new software, new $300 OS, other software...and still having something mess up...and ending up with a lot of down time.

A mac computer doesn't cost much more than a good, quality windows based PC.

Sure, you can get cheap PC's, but they are full of headache. Cheap parts don't work well, and not for long. You end up spending lots of time, and money, fixing the computer up.

I'd rather be working on my computer, than have a headache because of the computer. I don't wanna sit around fixing the computer to get it to work, in other works.

productivity is important to me, and that's one of the main factors in buying the computer.

Eventually, I'll get a G5, with Tiger...but for now, my powerbook laptop is great, and works great.

I needed all of maybe 7 minutes in a CompUSA to see that Mac was next for me, and I and I believed - and still do - that the doz os can't be fixed cause all they can do is create i million new security routines that will need huge system hog resources - so time to switch!

I will be switching in 12 days from a clunky Windows laptop to a sweet G4 1GHz iBook with 512MB RAM and 30GB HDD.

My reasons for the impending switch (the days have never felt so long in my entire life):
1. No more viruses.
2. No stubborn software blueprints after uninstalling.
3. Less 3rd party software required.
- Appleworks means no Office Vx or 2004 (for me anyway)
- Safari means I don't have to download another browser cause unlike IE it isn't crappy.
- iTunes is fantastic, so I don't need winamp or whateverelsehaveyou.
etcetc
4. Delicious interface and packaging.
5. Graphics programs: I work a bit in webdesign, maintaining my own page and all that, also some digital artwork. So for my purposes, the iBook with upgraded RAM (from 256MB) should work fine. I don't intend to go mad opening all those programs at the same time.

And a whole host of other reasons. These are just the main ones.

I'm counting down *sigh*

I didn't switch... the Mac was my first computer, and I just stuck with it.

Mac rulz

I personally am stuck with an IBM Netvista 1.72ghz intel processor with windows home edition for a few more months until my parents buy us a powermac g5. (When are the G5 imacs coming out?)
I use it for running photoshop, chatting and surfing the web but it hangs every ten minutes.

My school has loads of the old slot loading g3 imacs running jaguar, they are slow as heck but otherwise they rock!

I can't wait until I get my mac.

In 27 days I will have an order being processed for the Dual PowerMac G5 with a 20" or 23" Display.(In case you haven't been up on "The News", 27 days from now is WWDC, where they will be releasing new PowerMac G5s)

I am switching because after 14 years of experience I have found:
Windows: All I can say is that if it weren't for me spending 3/4 of my time repairing it, I would have an ACTUAL life.......
Linux: Powerful, Stable, but it just isn't as friendly as I'd like it to be....I need something in which I could sit at it for hours, and not get a headache from looking at some disorganized, unfriendly, cheesy interface....
Mac: Powerful, Stable, Unix Based, Practically bullet-proof, award winning interface, and its all a result of a company called Apple, who makes the hardware, the software, and simply just cares about quality.

Dual 2.2GHz powered by AMD Opteron - *Sends G5 & 8Gb Ram to scrap heap* Yeah! finally switched BACK!
Ah...so, for many years you guys have been waste time on a lame operating system that's supported by 98% of the world's sheep, with it's fragile interface built on 1940's code, and it's default blue and white flashing desktop wallpaper, that cease to go away. Oh wait, that's the warning screen for a crash!! :D

Finally you've seen the light! So tell us, what brought you here? Was it the slick design of those systems with the clean crisp ergonomics or the cool, calm, collective operating system? That appears to be 'Bullet Proof'

Oh, I don't know! Just let be Welcome you to the Apple OS and hope you can forgive my rants on the terrible system, based on Microsoft's Air-Conditioning. There's no turning back now! You've started to think differently eventually you'll feel more intelligent than the rest of the sheep.

hype.it welcome's you, to Apple™ & PowerMac™. Enjoy your new life long partner, MacOS X!

P.S. Maybe you guys should sue Bill Gate or Microsoft for lost of hair... you guys look pretty think on top. :D Must be all the stress...

I switched for a couple of reasons. First of all, I was getting really tired of Windows. Second of all, and the primary reason I switched is the following. I play music and write songs. I've been wanting to record at home for a few years now. I've played around with PC programs such as Acid to create loop based compositions. Nothing fancy. So I thought my next step would be to start recording. At first I wanted to stay away from recording on a computer. It was just too difficult with my situation. (The whole family shared on PC runing Windows XP and it would be too difficult to keep connecting and disconnecting and carrying equipment from the basement to the computer room and back again. So I was looking at digital workstations such as the Boss BR 1180 that I could keep in a room with my instruments and equipment.

A few months ago my son had made the swtich from a PC to an eMac and he was using Garage Band to record a soundtrack for a movie his friend is making. Then it hit me. I could get an iBook and have a portable recording tool and a good computer to boot.

So that's why I switched.

Welcome to Apple, and Welcome to the Forums. You'll find that Mac-Forums is a great community to share things, and flames are usually sent to /dev/null. Gotta love it! Anyway, welcome aboard!
