I use Firefox, have done on PC's since it first surfaced.

Safari 4 is great with the new trackpad gestures, but for sheer usability and flexibility, Firefox gets it hands-down every time.

I'm a little annoyed that mouse-gestures aren't available for Safari 4 - that's the single biggest thing that kept me with Firefox.
Also FastDial is perhaps the perfect bookmarking system - TopSites on Safari4 is just appalling, it looks great but works like a dog (similar in that respect to iTunes).

It's funny. Apple products are for the most part the most beautiful, intuitive bits of kit around, but every now and again the mark gets missed or is perhaps over-complicated.

Firefox for now.

Opera Rocks

Hi all,

Just want to give my opinion on this topic.

I have tried Safari, IE, Firefox and Opera...

I love Opera for the following reasons:

1. You are able to open multiple pages on tabs and windows. Best of all, if you restart your computer for any reason, you can reopen all the windows you were using before on 1 click. Even Bookmarks has become obsolete :)

2. Opera has an auto-refresh function that suits me well.

3. I love the zoom function with ctl + mouse. Better yet, Opera offer zooming within the browser by using Command + mouse. Just a nice additional touch no other browser offers.

4. It seems to improves in every updates. I can view almost anything with Opera which I can't view before.

There you go guys. Feel free to argue or debate my take! Peace! :Smirk:

Internet engines on Mac seem slow and unstable

I'm new to a MAC after using a PC for almost 30 years.

I'm using Safari and Firefox. So far I prefer Firefox, but both have been unstable compared to Internet Explorer on my PC's. Have lockups and dropped pages more often.

Is this normal?

Nope. Not normal at all. Firefox and Safari are normally very stable. Do you have Firefox 3.5 Beta? I find that crashes a little bit, but it's usually fine. Safari? Also stable. I don't get why you are having problems:)

I have had the reverse luck with IE. More issues. Firefox on Windows for me over IE.

Now as far as pages with issues, If web designer designed with IE in mind, Firefox, Safari, Opera even could have issues. That is not the fault of the browsers but poor page design.

As far as Web Standards, even IE8 is the worst browser on the Acid 3 standards test. Every other browser does way better. If Web designers would stick to the standards there would be a lot less issues with different browsers not able to view this page or that page.

No need to use anything other than Safari, except when validating new sites across browsers and/or platforms.

Firefox was the first piece of software I downloaded and installed on my new iMac over the weekend.

I started to use it a couple of years ago, as I refused to use Internet Explorer. But my main reason now is so I can install the add-on X-Marks both at home and on my company laptop. This sync's my bookmarks so if I am browsing at work and I see something I like I can still get at it at home. Plus having come from a Windows machine I have to rebuild the thing every 6 months or so and always used to lose all my bookmarks.

But I am told I can get something similar for Safari, so I will investigate this as I get used to my new machine.

Depends on the platform I'm using at the time, on my Mini or eMac it's Safari or Firefox, on my Windows boxes, it's Internet Explorer, however it's IE8 which somehow doesn't like to talk to my router when I'm in the configuration for it so in that instance I use Firefox on the PC.

I'm using Firefox, though I am noticing that when I bookmark a page it isn't automatically refreshing in my bookmark tab at the top of the browser.

What gives??

I'm using Chrome on my XP notebook and like it a whole lot. I tried Safari on it about a year ago and liked everything about it except it displayed fonts sort of fuzzy. If I get a MBP I'll start with Safari and then check out Chrome when it comes out for Mac.

I use Safari. But when I'm trying to play browser games (which I sometimes do) I use Firefox. It's better for that kind of stuff. But for the vast majority of the time I prefer Safari, for it's better interface, and I like the Top Sites feature.
