I spent years working with PC's at work and home, and installing and maintaining other's machines. In the last few years I became aware of how much of a PC's resources are just to run software to prevent viruses, spyware, trojans, etc.

Through the years PC's have become noiser and hotter, and now require too much of a user's resources. Because of all this, they have become less useful.

When the iMac came out with Intel Core 2 Duo it was the moment for me. I kept the IBM laptop and unplugged the Dells.
Photoshop and Illustrator moved to the Mac with very little expense (thank you, Adobe), Mac Office is as good or better, and I found that I didn't really need to run Windows on the Mac as I had expected.

The iMac is fast and quiet and...well, beautiful. No small consideration.

As Card said - with Windows - half of your system resources were just to help keep your PC from being infected those nasty viruses, etc.

Although I received my iMac as a birthday gift, I was hoping soon I would finally get my own iMac....my brother in law helped me finally see the light and switch.

God - I love my Mac!

I'd feel like an idiot walking in with a PC HAhaha...

I bought it earlier than intended because my PC gave me the BSOD and the hard drive exploded. Mmm. Quite glad it did, though =)

FreeBSD backend with a beautifully integrated GUI, and a truly amazing multimedia device.

1) Prior to this I had a Sony SZ laptop (for sale btw), which I liked but it just felt too fragile. There just isn't any other good multimedia device out there, other than the Sony laptops. However, they all feel so fragile or didn't quite have all of the features that I wanted. My only complaint and disappointment with the MacBook Pro is the lack of an Multi Memory Card reader. However, a simple $30 PCI-Express card fixed that. Also the beautiful matte screen on the MacBook Pro blew me away and was gravy compared to my SZ-120.

2) I was also very tired of Windows XP SP2, and Vista just didn't do it for me. The desktop integration felt so cluttered that I ended up disabling a lot of the features.

In my view, when it comes to laptops, the Mac/Powerbook Pros are without peer.

They look better work better and a PC laptop of same size and spec was much more expensive!

Yep same as me really, the MacBook is a very high Spec. My XP lappy was getting a bit long in the tooth and after seeing early problems a mate had with his new Vista Laptop made me look at the MacBook range, so far its one of the best decisions that I have ever made. Its so nice not having to worry about "Anti Virus/Spyware" that slow the system down. The only thing that I would alter with the MacBook is the top sharp edge, other than that its PERFECT.

For me it was the mac vs pc ads. They might seem like hype etc but I have found them to be true.

I've been a PC user for 12 years and been using computers for about 28 years. My uncle had a commodore pet 2001, I got a BBC micro.

I got given a digital camcorder for Christmas and I just KNEW my current PC wouldn't cope - it would need a fireware card putting in and I had visions of leaving it rendering for days.

A friend got a macbook and I was impressed with the built in isight (I am easily wowed).

At work I manage a small PC network and something is always playing up.

So I needed a new machine for digital stuff. I'd heard all the horror stories about vista - how you need a high spec machine just to run it.

Never used a mac before but just went out an ordered a 20" imac. Haven't had a lot of time to play but managed to make a DVD for easter for my partner and both our parents of some camcorder footage which included a picture slideshow of our 20 month old baby.

My last few windows boxes did not "Just work" they did not perform, some small things sometimes larger issues. Most people who use MACs seemed to not have these issues, I too was tired of fixing problems so decided to switch over. That was about 2 years ago now, no real problems with the MAC at all. Photoshop has quit working on me a couple times and had to restart, however that could be chalked up to the amount of work I had it doing more likely than the OS.
It was a bit costly to move, but I just ordered my second MAC this time to replace my laptop.

A $70 computer shipped to my door, that has given me less problems than a $300 new box computer. Sometimes I miss my Windows box... That's 'till I write a paper and realize, HEY IT DIDNT CRASH, and I can hand my paper in on time.

Black MacBook - 2.00GHz C2D - 2GB RAM - 120GB hard drive - Superdrive 6x
Well after reading about all the problems with Vista I kept saying "I'll buy a mac before I switch to Vista" then my boyfriend got a white MacBook and wouldn't shut up about how cool it was. Every time I turned around it was "hey look at this! OMG this is so cool! Hey check this out!" And it was cool. It was REALLY cool. I was sooo jealous. Then this past Saturday (my birthday) my boyfriend goes "happy birthday! I'm buying you a MacBook." He let me pick out all the stuff I wanted on it (I got the black one). Lol I've been tracking it on FedEx ever since. It's supposed to be here tomorrow. But tomorrow is Friday the 13th, I'm not superstitious but I do have really bad luck sometimes, and it would be very typical if something happened.

Windows crashed too much, the 'not responding' happened every 10 minutes and then I found that the ctrl alt del worked only about 60-65% of the time, I tested. I started looking at OS X and I felt a spirit telling me to 'Buy a mac'.

Since I'm not a huge gamer, I needn't worry about that.

Force Quit works 100% of the time 100% of the time!! and I have to use it maybe 3-4 times a month.

I tried Linux but it just didn't seem to cut it. Mac security is amazing!
Saw that the new Macbooks could run Windows if needed and I was sold!
I'm running Vista on my PC and I'm VERY glad I switched.

Thank you Apple!!

I have had MacBook for 4 weeks now, after 15 years of Windows problems, changing to mac has been the best move I have ever made, its great to be able forget Anti Virus/ anti Spy and all those windows add ons that make it slower than it already is.
FANTASTIC MAC!

It's the only popular alternative to Windows that has decent commercial applications.

It's built on a Unix-like OS.

I want to spend more time being creative and less time tinkering.

Nobody produces such well designed hardware.

Hardware can boot Windows if desperately needed.

I don't know, I just wanted one. I'm not into graphic design or photos. I'm just a grad student who needed a laptop. So, I went with an ibook. I love it. Then again, I had no real problems with Windows machines either. I've had OSX lock up on me before, too. With that being said, I'm probably never going to buy another non-Apple laptop again. I love it.

well, the end of my senior year of hgh school (4 years ago) i needed a computer for school. Without much hesitation at all, i got on the apple sight, started looking at the laptops, was originally going to get a highest spec ibook until my dad said "happy graduation, whatever computer you pick out i will pay for half" well there went the ibook and in came the 17" powerbook. Before that though, i really never used or saw to many macs, but the ones i did see i thought were awesome looking. I guess thats what made my decision. or the fact that all the computers i had growing up seemed to work great for a while then start freezing, slowing down, crashing... ahh, what i dont miss about windows :black:

Picked up an iMac yesterday at 2pm, intentionally for my wife to use in the lounge connected to my home wireless LAN. 30 hours later and she's still waiting for a turn on it :)

I've loaded windows on the iMac so we don't have to splash out for excel, word etc. but am investigating alternatives but my point is - Please could my PC crash and burn so i can go out and get my own iMac - After I let 'er indoors have a few days on cough her cough iMac she'll see the logic behind why I MUST also have one.

Enjoy
