I have been using PCs since I was a small child, before the days of Windows 3.1. I had started building PCs in high school, and had a self-built desktop for the first couple years of college. As college wore on, though, I came to really want a laptop, and my freshman year, Tiger was released. After that I started really wanting a Powerbook. It just seemed like Apple was light years ahead of Microsoft in terms of user interface design, and Apple's hardware has always been wonderfully designed. So, this Christmas, I finally had enough saved up to order a new MacBook Pro, and here I am.

not a switcher yet because of money issues but ive been dreaming for about a month now...

it pains me that i have been using windows for the whole 16 years of my life. My old dell crashed about 3 times and now its my sisters pos and it barely runs...

my last birthday my dad took me out to get a laptop and i was so into the moment that i wasted 1700 and got a hp laptop...
worst decision of my life

but now im working all summer and saving up for a 24inch imac for video editing and personal use.

main thing that got me going was in vid prod. at school, the emacs that we use are of course out of date but still work great. and macs are taking over the art/media industry
few more months of **** with windows though

That pretty much names every other reason why I want a Mac. Good list!

I was looking for a laptop for university. I didn't think I would need one, but found after one semester it would be extremely useful. I, like a lot of people thought that Macs were too expensive for someone like myself, the best that I could afford was an iPod; just like the Audi showroom I drive past everyday I can only dream. I also thought that it would be too much of a hassle because most people use Windows so I needed something that was compatible with the majority.

One morning I woke up and decided to actually do some research...I really wanted a Mac! I compared some prices and actually was presently surprised to find that the MacBook was in my price range. I was also surprised to learn that all Macs now came with Intel processors which made even more sense to buy a Mac. So I took the plunge and was a bit anxious about whether I had made the right decision. However, since I have had my MacBook it has met and exceeded my expectations in all ways possible and is possibly one of my best purchases.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention quality of the products.. My U2 iPod (first one ever), feels solid like a brick and not cheap.. My Ti PowerBook has taken 2 spills and still performs as if it were brand new.

I never really had a problem with XP crashing, but I got tired of the constant updated of spyware and drivers. I just wanted something different, but I really got sucked into the Mac world. I have really come to love the Mac for it's ease of use, and how well things work together (iLife, mail, and the such). It's easy to move things around and get things done.

i want a small 13" laptop with good specs, Windows based ones were either behind on CPU tech, or very limited, MacBook appealed to me, and even more so that it could run windows, worked for me

Just basically, for once, Apple had something to suit my needs.

Yeah, but if I wait (I'm another one who has already decided, but is holding out for a little bit), I can get my new MBP with Leopard...and if I'm lucky, the rumors of new hardware for the MBP will be true and I'll make the leap at that time. I WANT it now, but I don't HAVE to have it right this second. It strains my patience, to be sure, but I figure I can certainly hold out until June-ish.

For me I was simply tired of MS. I made up my mind that no way was I willingly going to use Vista, and even though XP will be supported for some time to come, I didn't want to risk using some outdated OS. Plus, I've been curious about OS X, and have loved Mac hardware, for quite some time. This 15+ years Windows user is very happy about making the switch. I've had my 15" MBP (2.16 C2D; 2GB RAM) for only 3 days, but I am so happy...

How long do you wait though? That is the question! But there's always the question of money too.

I looked into the Macs, I really knew what I wanted before I went to the store, saying that, I didn't look into them enough to know there was possibly something new out in June, but then what comes after that?....is it really going to be June?..... is it just a rumor?

In a couple of years it'll be quad-cores all round and we'll be waiting for the quad-core duo!

A friend was in the market for a laptop a couple of months back - portable, needs to work on documents (Word, PDF, Excel), when traveling would like a bit of multimedia (CD, DVD), wireless, Bluetooth for his printer and above all, safe and stable....... When I was helping him choose I was thinking Mac, but could I convince him? Nope!
Instead it was, "do I get this one from Dell, this from Gateway, this from HP.... do I get a £400 one, a £700 one or a nice £1200 Viao? " Being in the same market as him and doing the research I went for the MBP.

 this thing is even correcting the spelling in my post! Amazing! and I'm 600 miles away from home in Bonnie Scotland too!

Vista pushed me over the edge and it looks very similar to the Mac so why not just go to Mac? :dive:

Spyware & Viruses: It's easy to protect PCs against most malware, but I'm tired of needing to install all the protection and having the software use up my resources. It was a joy to unbox my 24" iMac and start using it immediately without worries.

Parallels, VMWare, and Boot Camp: Owning a Mac was the only way to have access to all OSs; OS X, XP, Vista, Ubuntu.

Pretty, Easy, & Cool: OS X is the best OS for home use.

24" iMac: A 24" all-in-one? Count me in!

Vista's "insanely paranoid" DVD DRM: http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut001/pubs/vista_cost.html "...even with nothing else happening in the system, a mass of assorted drivers has to wake up thirty times a second just to ensure that… nothing continues to happen"

Because... Macs were the FIRST types of computer I EVER used if you're not counting those OLD Tandys... lol... But seriously, we used them in elementary and pre-school for the library catalog, web surfing (Yahoo Kids used to be the stuff in the 90s), documents, etc. It was the best, I always loved those iMac G3s! So then I went to middle school and they used Dell (Eck) but at the time I had been using a custom made computer since like 97 and then we got a Dell from **** and so by the time I was in high school I wanted to switch back to mac but I had missed the G4 iMac. So for Christmas my dad took me in the store and bought me a Rev C iMac G5 17" and then less than a month later those were outdated by the intel macs and I was ****** but kept it.

And now here it is 2007 and I just ordered a MacBook. :D

When I went to school for graphic design my school issued me a powerbook g4. It seriously only took me a few minutes to fall in love with it. I bought a used g4 tower really cheap when I had to give the powerbook back, it wasn’t really all that great but it was still better than using windows. Now I’ve got my nice shiny MBP that I never put down. I love it. Every mac I have ever used has just worked. What is there not to love about that?
