Download Speed: 2768 kbps (346 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 371 kbps (46.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

Using a UK speed test (or used to be in the UK anyway) Think Broadband I get:

Speed Down 3047.01 Kbps ( 3 Mbps )
Speed Up 377.82 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )

Fairly similar results.

I'm on one of those up to 8Mb DSL packages - I've never seen it above 4Mb yet

Verizon FiOS: 15 Mbps downlink, 2 Mbps uplink. Those are the advertized numbers and it actually does achieve these speeds regularly! The VPN I use into work makes it even better, as it does data compression. I regularly see nearer to 20 Mbps down and 3.5 Mbps up. Truly amazing! I remember when I got my first 14.4 kbps modem and thought I had a real screamer on my hands! How times change!

I wish I got 5mbps more then I payed for.. I have the 20mb package and only get 20.1 on a regular basis.

Those are the speeds I pay for the bandwidth tests are generally about 1/2 Mbps higher on each.

I am more concerned with the upload speeds those are where the real advantage is. With my old service (Cable modem) I was under 1Mbps around 748 and it took forever to upload an event to my photo service. With the 20Mbps downloads it flies and while faster would be better things such as video streaming work almost instantly.

This is on my wireless home connection on cable. I'll have to do the test again at school and see what I get.

I use a basic netgear wireless router at home. Would I get a faster rate if I use a wired connection?

fleurya -- No, your wireless connection to the router has essentially no impact on the upload and download speeds you get. Your wireless connection is almost certainly faster (probably significantly faster) than your bandwidth.

Here is mine... I was surprised... it's pretty good for just standard service through my cable company... I do live in Kansas, so it doesn't have the congestion that larger cities might have.

edit: and it does seem that location does matter quite a bit. chicago is giving me the fastest results at this time (from bloomington, mn).
