That's ADSL, at the time shown. Neanderthal! I pay for 256/128 Kbps, so complaining just gets me reminded of that.

The thing that impresses/staggers me is the Ping numbers shown in these reports. You guys in the metropolitan US sure have it good!

Update
Here's another reading from earlier in a day (12 hrs ahead of GMT). Time of day certainly affects connection speeds.

I recently heard a report that many people are only getting about half of their advertised speeds so it's a good idea to keep your ISP honest by checking your speeds every once in awhile.

I should have said that it's a satellite internet connection.
I live about 80 KM out of Whitehorse,Yukon by a single lake with almost no neighbours. Which means, no phone or cable internet unless you are a millionaire and can get them to hook you onto the fiber-optic cable that runs under the passing highway.

This is the sat ISP package we use (KaBang IIRC). Don't look at the price :D

That's my throughput. It's been raining most of today, so the speeds have dipped a little; I usually get around 16.3Mb/s DL speeds. :D

Which post are you referring to? The speeds range from slow to super-fast, and there are a lot of variables.

Essentially though, the speed you get for internet connection is determined by your ISP, where you're located, and the technical equipment available.

256 Kbps is generally regarded as the minimum acceptable download broadband speed, but most ISPs provide better than that, often promoted as "as much as your line will carry" (ADSL on copper cable). Fibre optic cable is MUCH faster but not all places have it. Satellite can be very fast too.

Upload speed is usually a lot slower because of limits placed on the telco equipment.

I miss those school days. It's been awhile since I've gotten those speeds. With the high quality multimedia content on the internet nowadays the lower end broadband speeds aren't fast enough.

I'm really disappointed in the slow progress in speed increases for resident customers. Some places still don't even offer broadband.

I don't know why the time is GMT when it pinged a nearby server in the same time zone as me (PT) but it is currently 1:30 in the afternoon.
