I hate that I'm not technical, but could an iPhone version of Adium be written using AJAX (or whatever it's called lol).

I wouldn't see why not. There's more than a few Java-based Chat clients, I wouldn't imagine AJAX to be too far of a stretch.

Since I am new here, and I'm going to be switching from a PC to a mac (well, I'll still be keeping the PC, but I WILL have a mac), would NOW be a good time to go ahead and order my iMac, or should I wait till the end of the week? Are there usually more announcements throughout the week during the conference?

i doubt there will be any new hardware - its all been updated quite recently.

you can wait forever for the latest. if you need it now get it ! - if you can wait till the weekend or next week then wait.

Me too. It crashed immediately following the requester to enter proxy credentials (this is on my XP box, on my desk at work). Looks like a pretty major bug right out of the gate. At this point, it's useless to me, but I wanted to see what it looked like anyway.

I installed it on a Dell Optiplex 3.06HT with 2GB RAM and XP SP2 will all service packs. It worked fine on this end. There was one pause when I checked a few settings in preferences, but since then it's been solid so far. I even used it to post a couple of messages here on Mac Forums! Time will tell. :D

A couple of other PC people I talked with had the crashing issue. Maybe it's just with some hardware.

Keep in mind that the PC Safari is a beta version (at least that's what Steve said), so it won't be perfect right now. This is still Apple we're talking about, after all.

yh beta's can be unstable

The 17" iMac will soon be faded out, there wasn't any additional news on the Sliver Aluminum iMac if that is what you're holding out for. If you're interested in the 20" or 24" waiting just a week shouldn't hurt, however I don't anticipate any changes to either, at least not that I have heard.

Being that its in Beta now might be a good time to bring up the favorite sorting issue.

My machine is a little older than yours. I believe it's a Dell Optiplex GX270, 2.8GHT with 1GB and an 80GB HD, running XP SP2. Are you guys using a proxy server?

Sooper Fast!
Apple knew what they were doing. Releasing updates on MB's and MBP's, adding a new option on Apple TV all before the Keynote. I don't know about any of yous, but updating all that stuff before Keynote, made me think they were just clearing the way for a bigger presentation of updated hardware at the actual Keynote. What a flop!

EDIT: I'm so mad Safari 3 doesn't work with Panther. Never thought I'd see the day an Apple Software product works on XP before my SLIGHTLY outdated system.

But this practice is good. Dropping new hardware upgrades without having to have a big presentation about it may mean that their upgrades may come more quickly and there may be more options. Nothing sucks more than having the competition pass you by while you sit and wait, hoping each event Apple has is an upgrade for a current platform. Just having it happen is the way to do it. "It just works".

Edt: Annnnnd....I skipp the 2,3, and 4th page.

I have to say that I think Leopard looks really, REALLY cool. But the whole keynote speach was disappointing, unfortunately. Most of the things Steve talked about were already well-known. Over half of the "new features" had already been revealed. I was just hoping for more.

By no means am I disappointed with Leopard (I think it will be nice update to a great OS), but I'm just disappointed that there wasn't more when there were supposed to be these "top secret" features that were going to be revealed.

Anyhoo, does anyone know what the system requirements are for Leopard? Would they be the same as Tiger, or more? Or are they going to be outrageous like Vista? I need a nice portable laptop (my current laptop is too heavy to be a laptop, but not as powerful as a desktop...it's kind of an annoying computer, lol), and I've been wanting a Macbook for a long time. If there's some good student deals on in the fall, maybe I'll go ahead and get myself one. I just love where Leopard is going and it looks like a great step ahead for the OS.

Same rig. Upgraded a few things on this one. Got it for next to nothing from a Government computer sale.

No proxy server here. That might cause an issue.

Edit, CWA107, keep an eye on this thread. Everyone seems to be having the Proxy problem.

You could tell when Steve was doing the Demo's the crowd was very mute most the time and only clapping at the end of demo's(except for core animation demo which is just a demo of what you could do with it, that video wall is not in Leopard??)

I think Steve could sense the crowd was not that impressed with what was going on, things like cover flow ilook and stacks the crowd hardly cared, let alone the time machine and other stuff we had already seen.
If they are the major upgrades of leopard, whats taking so long?.

I was hoping for a bit more of a major overhaul.
Tiger is looking old compared to Vista (I should not have to envy MS users, Blah!) Leopard looks more of the same with minor tweaks, finder, dock and a little graphics Candy. (still looks like Tiger). I thought that grass Wallpaper was a joke? I mean thats like a Vista wallpaper innit?

I don't know what people expect.

People buy into the hype the read on all the rumor sights...Unrealistic expectations are not met and people whine.

Happens every year.

He said he was showing 10 of 300 features, I'm not sure that it was comprehensive.

Am I the only person who loved the Keynote?? I was stoked!

I deleted Firefox after it was over, and I'm watching the torrents waiting for the pre release! You know someone in that room will leak it!

Whats with you people?
