Hi Everyone,

Macbook Air 2015 – running Yosemite, wanting to update to Sierra. But currently can't – :'(

I no longer have access to my old Apple ID because I lost both my password and my authentication key in a freak accident!

I already had a second apple Id, so I am using it instead. I signed into iCloud on Safari with the new one and iCLoud sent me to the Apple.com to configure everything, to wipe all my documents on the cloud, which seemed largely to be my me.com account and email. I then went to iCloud in Settings and signed out of the old ID and into the new one, no problem. I signed out of the old one in iTunes and in with the new one, again no problem.

However, when I went to the App store to update the one App that I bought with this old Apple ID, I hit a snag. In the ID field, my old ID is there greyed out, so I cannot change it to the new one. This means no OS updates either, which was the main reason for signing out of the old ID in the first place.

Does this mean that I will have to reinstall my whole OS? Surely there has to be a work-around. Hoping one of you might know what it is.

Thanks, Carole

Thanks a lot. I called AppleCare and it turns out you can just log out of the App store and back in again. Who Knew! The guy also checked my iPhone to troubleshoot a battery problem, and he told me my battery is fried. I hope one of the Houston stores can replace it if I go there. I don't have another phone.

Some solutions to being permanently locked out of your Apple ID

You are welcome. Glad to help.

By the way if you get locked out of your Apple ID, like I did, and your other Apple devices like iPhone, iPad etc are stuck with "Find my iPhone" turned on, typically you cannot turn it off without your password (which in my case, I did not have) But there is a solution. You can call Apple Customer support and submit to them proof of purchase for your iDevices, and they can unlock your "find my iPhone" on your devices from that old Apple ID, although it will still look like it is on, on your device. It took about a week for them to do that for my iPhone and iPad.

But then, when you change your Apple ID on your computer, you will have to restore your other i-devices to factory settings to connect them to that new Apple ID (unless you guys know another way to do it:). And that means losing all the apps etc you purchased with the old ID. Of course you don't need to do that if you are happy not updating your iOS or Apps.

Hope that info helps someone. Maybe I should have posted this somewhere else on the Forums.

Just a bit of info: iMazing 2 is currently on sale through Macworld Magazine. You can save 50% buying a license through them instead of direct from the iMazing site.

That's good news chscag and sure a help for those that find the regular price of $40.00 a bit rich, but do you have a URL for the deal.

I only saw a recent article on the latest version and couldn't find the offer:

Thanks for these suggestions.

By the way is there anywhere you can get an iPhone battery changed on the spot other than an Apple store? I declined to wait two hours in one today.

Check in your local Mall for those small cozy sales tables that advertise cell phone repair. However, it's buyer beware - so make sure you deal with one that knows what they're doing.

Fortunately my local Apple Store is in the middle of a large "Village Shopping Center" so I can always wander around while repairs are being made. And since it's only about 10 minutes from my house I can always drive home and back.

It was included with the latest "bundlehunt" sponsored by Macworld Mag. I just did a search for "bundlehunt" and couldn't find iMazing 2 included. I had already deleted the email I received from them. Dig around, they're always offering discounts.

They can't really do that on the spot. First they'll have to open up the iPhone, which is typically removing the screen, but in the 4S they remove the back. It is glued in, so they have to re-glue your screen back after replacing the battery. Once they just replaced the entire phone. That was fast.

You don't have to wait, you can carry on and do some other things at other places and then go back later… - Patrick
======

Not if you are a walkin. If you have an appintment, you can do other shopping until the time of your appointment. If you are a walkin and you are waiting to get a chance to see someone, and then you walk off to do some shopping, someone other waiting person will take your place. I was told it would be two hours before someone could even address my issue, and then on top of that the time it would take to do the on-the-spot-repair, assuming that they could. I had another appointment after my visit to Apple, so I just gave up.

There are a number of Apple stores in the Houston area but none near me. I live about 50 miles Northwest of downtown Houston, but it took me two hours to get home in the commute traffic, and I left at 4:00pm.

I'll be back in Houston in about ten days, so this time I will book an appointment.

Mine's a 5S; I have no idea how long it would take. I don't have another phone. No landline in my very rural street, so I can't just hand it over for a repair.

Ahhh… that is a completely different situation and would be quite a normal thing to just carry on. They sure must be one busy place!!!

That's an understatement Patrick. On Saturday or Sunday, the typical Apple store is like a madhouse and if you're a walk in with a problem, (no appointment) forget it! It's a bit better during the week but now that school is let out for Summer vacation here in Texas, even week days are difficult. I'm referring to the genius bar, not sales. You can always round up a sales person even on the busiest days. ;)

I'll bet one can and Apple I'm sure needs the money. And it would provide much more profit for them as well I'm sure.

We don't have any Apple Store close by that wouldn't take a day to get to and return plus a ferry or airplane trip across the ocean strait. Not cheap!!

We are lucky enough to have several excellent independent good Authorized Apple Dealer Service Stores not too far a 1/2 hour drive away in Victoria. And some other good non-Apple Authorized stores as well.

WOW!! I just noticed that just Houston has four Apple Stores!
And you seem to have at least two not too far away in Dallas.

Actually, we have four in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The one closest to my home is in Southlake, Texas which is the next town over from where I live. Normally, a 10 minute drive. Of course on a busy shopping day, you might spend 15 minutes looking for a parking spot.

Opps, I miss counted from Apple's list.

That must be quite nice to have so much direct Apple support so close by.

BTW and OT: What's with the post that just came in below your's???

I just booted into my Sierra partition and I'm wondering it it's working properly or not, but I don't know or understand what language it is or if something's goofy.
