Sorry, I don't understand. What is the name of the app to make the changes in Time Machine? ".wdgt" is not an app name..
MacBiter recommended I try Time Machine Buddy. I downloaded it, unzipped it, and it is a Dashboard Widget.

Interesting - mine is an app! But then, I'm running Mavericks...

From the Internet, these quotes:

"Time Machine Buddy is a widget that may have trouble reading logs if you aren't logged in as an Admin user".

"Time Machine Buddy organises and displays the systems logs generated by Apple's Time Machine Backup feature found in Mac OS X Leopard. With this widget you will be able to quickly tell what is happening behind the scenes for the backup in progress or any previous backups".

"Alternatives to TM Buddy widget?" - This from the Apple Site itself.

So, not apparently an "app" as such; but presumably acts like one?

I've just started to encounter this since upgrading to Sequoia. If I'm logged off or asleep it may not complete. If I restart it, it does. I think there may be a setting that causes the machine to wake up for backups but I don't recall what it is.

I don't have Sequoia yet, but this setting (Sonoma) may have an equivalent. Worth a look.

System Settings > Energy Saver

The settings I've chosen above work fine for me. TM works fine, CCC works fine and any other Hard Drives remain active.

Best I can offer, I'm sorry.

Yes please; let us know.

Unfortunately you can't prove a negative. If I never get an error again I won't really know why. Usually, as with most Apple products, "It just works."™

I never set drives to sleep. What happens is that when the OS wants access, it sends the request to the drive. If it's a rotating drive, it doesn't respond until the drive reaches full speed and can report ready. Unfortunately, that can take longer than the OS allows, so the OS moves on and flags that drive as "unavailable" to use. And that action can trigger all sorts of anomalies.

Probably that is what was happening to me. I use rotating drives for TM backups.

Sorry - my bad. I have Buddy in my Applications folder, but the actual app is TimeMachineEditor.

Still doing it but only when the computer is idle and this never happened before Sequoia.

I can't find a setting for sleep but when I'm away for a while I have to log back in or use touch ID. I am going to try keeping my display on to see if that does anything.

If you have a portable Mac (MBP or MBA), look in Settings>Battery>Options for the settings. If your Mac is a desktop (iMac or Mini), I don't know where the settings will be.

Doesn't solve the problem. This seems only to happen when I am away from my computer for a fairly long time and TM wants to do a backup. Once I am back it completes ok. Battery says it can wake up for network access, which may not be what TM is trying to do, and that isn't solving the issue.

As I said before this has only cropped up since upgrading to Sequoia. I don't know what changed so I don't know how to fix it.

Are you using iPhone Mirroring, is it set to auto login, if so this could be an issue as it requires the Mac to be logged in to immediately, after coming from screen saver. Just a thought.

Yes. That is something new with Sequoia I am playing with. It turns out the default seems to be auto. I switched that off. We'll see what happens.

This may be premature but I think this cured the problem, although I don't know how. A daily TM backup occurred at 2:40 AM when I was logged off and the machine should have been asleep. I'm currently running Sequoia 15.1.

"Backups will resume when your Mac is unlocked" and "Time Machine does back up everything when it runs during the day" are pretty strong clues.
Is her drive encrypted?

Just bought an M2 Pro Mac Mini. Fresh install of Sequoia 15.1, copied my data over, and Time Machine is immediately giving me this exact same error.

I miss Mojave already. Had zero issues with that OS.

Bummer and it seems You Are Not Alone including other forums but welcome aboard mac-forums forums but you might want to check out some other sites and Google hits on the same subject:

I'm sorry I cannot help much as I don't use Mac OS's Time Machine.
