The US is much much easier. The drive between cities is a lot shorter. Though ‘the slab’ is pretty long and dreary at points especially in the dead of winter, but not as bad as up in canada. That drive from Toronto to Winnipeg is a doozy :) the main reason why bands always play Thunder Bay (16 from Toronto and 8 to Winnipeg for non Canadians) I think the crazier drive I’ve done is probably Edmonton to Toronto straight after a show. That was 5 guys real happy to get out of that van!
Ahh yes the sweet smell of a paper mill......that will clear your head........but Winnipeg to Calgary is boringly boring.

It’s actually not bad. But generally there’s lots of stops in between. I recall doing that insane decent with hairpins down the mountains with no guardrails in a blizzard headed to Vancouver one wee hours night. I think I smoked for the first time in years and there’s a van somewhere with my fingernail impressions in the dash as I was in the passenger seat. Can’t wait to get back out there!!

Morning all. Hope you and yours are well. Today in the Inn we have a nice light roast French Vanilla for you to try, and to nosh on our famous Rum Cream Fruit and Waffles..... yum.

Today is normally my PBS night watching Masterpiece Theatre....but I have seen the current series so will have to channel surf.

I’ve been watching Pachinko and Slow Horses on Apple TV, both interesting and very good. Anyone else watching these....or what are you watching?

Had a road trip from Ontario (Fonthill) to Calgary - not a bend after the Soo! This is why North Americans misunderstand drive times in the UK, especially in hilly areas like Derbyshire and Scotland. No regular rest areas either.

I haven’t gotten into Ptolemy Gray as yet but intend to. I startEd Foundation but somehow lost interest...I’ll have to go back and finish it. My wife has been bingeing on Bridgerton. I must confess I have a bit of a weakness for costume period pieces...

Expressed another way, some visitors from the U.K. misunderstand the distances in our provinces... I am torn though on which is a more challenging drive...the mindless prairie drive or the constant curves of hilly and mountainous areas.

It is a crazy drive. Ours was 47 hours straight, 3 drivers at the wheel, we stopped only for one dinner in Thunder Bay, and 15 minutes after I nearly took out a bull Moose who then trotted after us pretty mad so I had floor it in a fully loaded down V8 extended van with gear and 5 guys. I needed a drink after that (after which another driver took over ;) )

Driving in Canada's north is always an adventure sometimes!

True, and as you know Groove, Thunder Bay isn’t really that North compared to the rest of Canada…I view Sudbury and Thunder Bay as “the rest of Canada”.
Years ago I had occasion to drive up the old Alaskan hwy…now that was an adventure. I had a property in Warren, near Sudbury, it had a pond on it and on the occasion of me visiting the site there was a bull moose grazing in the pond. This thing was as big as a truck…I swear I could walk under it and still have headroom. The property had dense bush…this moose must have had a 10 ft rack on him, but he just looked up at us and then walked away into the bush…and didn’t make a sound while he did it. Up until that moment the biggest domestic animal I had every seen was an Ox at Upper Canada Villiage.

Yes not north by any means (TB). The only time I was on the Alaska highway was a very very brief section on the way up to Grand Prairie. Didn’t know it extended into Canada. It was a winter tour so it was a wee bit chilly there.

I agree Groove will be nice to have BBQ weather. It’s dull and rainy here in Windsor today., but we are heading to 16c this week.

We have Hazelnut Creme Coffee in a French Press on today served with our famous Cinnamon Rolls.....warm from the oven.

Any musical instrument players here today... I know Groove and Freddie B play an instrument...what about the rest?

I play a little guitar, a little banjo...but my main instrument now is a ukulele...other players out there?

First news thing I remember seeing, dropped off at the baby sitters, early morning, plunked in front of the big console tv, it was a live broadcast of Nixon leaving the White House on the helicopter waving good bye, I knew this was something big so I was facinated. 7 years old I think.

Kennedy's assassination.

Ian
Same. At harvest festival and a friend of my mum's arrived with the news: 'They've shot Kennedy'. I can still see and hear her.
