I am a moderator in a chat room and i made the mistake of telling some long time users i went mac, well to make a long story short, I received several rude comments and a prediction that in two weeks I'd throw it out the window and get a "real computer"

Now no one will talk to me at all. And they tell me Mac owners are snotty. :/

Even "I" was never this bad. Has the FUD campaign really spread this far?

Oh my! Did any of them tell you that MAC's have NO Applications, none at all? Won't do anything? Did they call them MAC's in all caps?

I have/had friends like that. Hang in there!

They hardly sound worth speaking to in the 1st place...

Sadly that's the way it is with online forums (and sometimes "real" life too) you spend so much time there speaking to people that you feel you know quite well and then they come out with something that really shocks you and you realise you only know that very little side of them.

I've never had anyone react to me like that, people are more interested in why I switched you know the pro's and con's etc.

It sounds as if they are just very sad, I hate Fanboys. I'm a Moderator on Next Generation Console Site, I'm a Xbox 360 Fan but I have no gripes with anyone who decides to switch to PS3 or Wii or even get the lot. Some people just need to realise one size doesn't fit all and that certain people have different needs.

As for those Ads I agree with PC Fanboys they are stupid and lame and all they seem to do is mock Windows than rather showing the benefits of OSX.

I liked the ads, but being a jerk is on my list of hobbies. Mind you I prefer the American ads to the English ones. Probably the only case where I prefer spoken American to spoken English.

I don't find the mac guy offensive at all,

I didn't know you got Little Britain...That is a quality show.

Anyway I don't know why people try to create the American English to British/Commonwealth English all the time. If you were to travel around the UK you will found numerous different dialects to the English Language which is replicated around the world. That's possibly the best thing about it.

Anyway back on Topic, have you tried signing them up to Gay Porn Sites?

Dood, I don't even tell people about Macs anymore except my dad, because if his windows box screw up, I have to fix it.

They're not worth it, just live for yourself and be productive and enjoy the mac.

You know, even if people like Windows better, they shouldn't be ignorant of other religions... i mean, operating systems. You get me.

Well said, Yogi. I do find it quite sad though that people will stop talking to someone on the basis of what OS they choose to use. Something not quite right there...

I recently chose a Nikon over a Canon which provoked some weird competitiveness from a collegue of mine where he made a few comments ("Lets see your mickey mouse camera" for example) in an attempt to belittle my choice. I chose it as I prefer it, it has better features and I found it worked better (for me). I have absolutely no issues regarding his choice of camera and am sure it's a very good piece of kit. I just had to laugh at how much my decision had upset him, it says a lot about someone I think.

I recall seeing a tv movie set in the future and there were 2 types of people;

Onliners - people who have access to a computer/internet connection
Offliners - people who don't

That concept really got me thinking some ....

The reason for their behavior is perhaps simple. Macs are on the ascent, gaining market share daily at the expense of PCs. They feel threatened. And what do uninformed people do when they feel threatened? They strike back!

Don't take it personally. You are a standard bearer for a better way!

...I know, I know, spoken like a true zealot. BUT, I think I have a right to statements like this. I have used PCs since the days of DOS/Win3.1, and from there to Linux. I know a thing or two about the computer landscape. IMHO, Mac's *are* a better way.

What I find with that sort of crowd is that they don't actually have any arguments beyond, "PCs rule, Macs drool!" Just ignore it and enjoy your Mac - because I know you are.

Some us don't like Macs b/c we just don't think they are very good machines. I'm on this site a lot b/c even though Macs only make up 15% of my computers, about 70% of my calls come from them, and not just "how do I do this" questions. I've got beach balls of death, printers dropping, programs quitting, hardware failure, can't connect to the OSX server, etc... I've spent more time this year patching these 20 Macs then all of my Windows machines combined. I'm just not impressed by what I see from the Mac. The only thing I've got going for me is that we don't have any zealots working here now. We've had them in the past and there is nothing worse than having to fix a broken machine while somebody stands behind you, going on and on about how great the machine is.
