I am so excited. I finally took the plunge, and it was not easy leaving Windows based PC's that I have used for years and feel comfortable with.....except for the constant virus worries, crashes, and upgrades.

I have ordered a Apple MacBook Pro Core Duo 2.16Ghz 17”
120Gb HDD, 1Gb RAM, Airport Ectreme, Bluetooth 2.0EDR
Superdrive, iSight, Frontrow, Remote, 12 Month Apple Warranty
Lifetime Tech Support

I got a great deal as it has just been superseded by the 2.33 model.

cheers big ears

I read that the 2.33 is only like a 3% bump over the 2.33, so I don't feel it's worth the money. I spent the money to bump up the ram and the HDD. Gratz I just switched in Jan and got an iMac, but I think I'm getting a MBP soon also.

AWESOME!! I did the exact same thing, but with a 15" MacBook Pro! I ended up paying $1700 for a $2500 computer

Where are you folks finding these deals? I'm currently looking at a MB and would love to manage to save a bit of cash when I switch.

I have spent a couple of hour downloading updates etc and its great.

One question though....it gets very hot on the back of the keyboard just below the screen and the portable power adapter is pretty hot also...Is this normal??

I think the heat issue is one of the MBP "quirks" mate.

Can't wait to get my MBP now.

If you put your computer on your lap, it tends to get hot. So does your power adapter if you place it somewhere that holds heat, like on a bed or couch, etc. Even though it tends to get warm when you plug it directly into the outlet as well.

As for the laptops heat, you can download an ap called "smcfancontrol". This program lets you raise the minimum fan speed and cools down your computer. I tend to set it at 2500 rpm -the default speed of Core 2 Duo Macs- and it doesnt run hot.

The MacBook Pro's run a bit warm. Try the fan speed controlling app that Ninjab3ar recommended. It should help your problem

Yes they do run warm and I can live with that. For the 6 hours it ran I loved it, but then the firmware update caused it to die. The tech's have had a look and they tell me it has/had a faulty main board and I will get a new replacement MBP......soon.

So I'm happy with my choice to be a switcher still.

Im glad you like it. It's too bad you got a faulty system. But im glad to see that the Mac as impressed you so much that you decided still use Macs even if your first one was messed up. I've been a switcher for about 3 months now, and I really love my 15" MBP, I hope you feel the same about yours.
