I use a Verizon FIOS router / set top box for wireless internet access. Has anyone had any problems with this setup after the SL upgrade?

The best feature for me so far is Exchange 2007 support. It was a breeze to setup and is working perfectly.

I couldn't agree more. Goodbye Entourage...don't let the door hit ya on the way out :)

The wireless link to my time capsule died after loading SL. Not the end of the world.

I had a system that blocked flash adverts with Safari 4, I have no idea where I downloaded it from (anno domini). Pithhelmet is not available for Safari 4, Softonic appears to be permanently down. The Firefox add-on has continued to work, so the lack of a Flashblocker is the only negative I can find.

Before anybody goes for my jugular, I've spent two days searching all types of forums and websites. I have therefore come to the conclusion that the answer is stuck in front of my face, or this is all a bad illusion. :)

Any sensible suggestions happily accepted.

Safari AdBlock
is what you're looking for. Just note that you'll have to start Safari in 32-bit mode to use it.

PithHelmet is outdated and poor by comparison.

You mean I wasn't the last one to get SL? It sure felt like I was the last one.

I got everything working here but I have refrained from reinstalling quite a bit simply because I didn't need 50% of what I had installed before. I managed to get most things working but I'm still working through FTP issues with Espresso and various Python issues including Pydev (with Eclipse), dealing with the transition to 64-bit Python as the default and problems with py2app. Some other programs are working but are betas such as Cyberduck so I'm waiting for final and stable versions for those.

I did my upgrade to SL last night right after class (and copying my current Photoshop project off to my flash drive since was the only thing that had changed since my most recent backup) and popped the disk in and let it rip.

The original estimate of 1 hour 5 min turned out to be just about 45 minutes to my being able to log back in. Everything seems smooth and quick.

I did neglect to note down my disk space, so I can't comment on how much I saved. Other than that, I'm not certain I like Finder in Cover View. I think it would be better if I could give the folders a unique picture like iTunes does with album art.

My parallels works fine but I haven't tried to boot into my bootcamp XP load. I'm thinking of taking that off anyway, since I only did it to see how well it worked. :D

All in all I have to say this was the simplest upgrade of an OS I've ever done. That of course, because every other one has been Windows or Linux....

Thanks again to those who answered my questions, and everybody else who posted to this thread. It helped with my decision to go ahead with the upgrade.

Yeah I guess not, :Grimmace:, all my apps seem to be working the only one I havn't tested is Eclipse and well the majority of time I am using visual studio for my programming needs so not much of a loss if it is broken for me for a bit. I have to say I like SL so far, I have noticed a speed increase on most apps that I use some have a better speed upgrade than others.

Edit: I was a little bit surprised that it actually saved my open dns setup after the install, very kool.

I had forgotten about adding the OpenDNS servers back (I did a fresh install). Thanks!

Eclipse works fine but PyDev doesn't seem to recognize my script. It kept complaining that it can't find it. Now, it keeps complaining that I'm running 64-bit Python despite the fact that I changed it so that OS X should default to the 32-bit version. I have a challenge for me tomorrow...

Are you using OpenDNS by setting it up in Network settings on your Mac?

I was using it on my router, but had to pull it off as my HP MediaSmart does not play nice with it.

Anyone else seeing a ton of spinning beach balls since the update? It seems to happen most frequently while using Firefox.

No beach balls - stays about 1 GB free of my 3GB usable RAM.

VM has ballooned up to 100% of my free space at 160GB.

I haven't had a beach ball at all since the update.

I set it up through Sys. Pref. as I don't have access to the router. Works great here as it did with Leopard. What was happening with the MediaSmart?

I have gotten a few but they are fairly isolated. The one thing that is concerning me is Flash. It's always been a concern but it seems worse. WebkitPluginHost is using about 60-70% of my CPU on top of Safari which uses 25-50% for a simple YouTube video. I know Flash is bad but not 85-120% CPU usage.

No access to the server from any computer in the house, XP, Win7, or OS X as soon as I put OpenDNS addresses in the router. Took me 2 hours to figure that one out when I first got the thing a couple weeks ago. After I got it all set up and working, tried adding them back again. As soon as I add them, the server disappears. Remove them, the server pops back up. It's the only machine I have that does this. Found many reports about it after I discovered it and started searching.

I'm hitting the same 50-70% on flash video but only about 15% from Safari which is actually better than I was seeing under Leopard.

No beach balls here at all and in fact the best and smoothest this system has ever ran.

To be fair though CWA, I have not even opened Firefox on the Intel Mac since the SL install. I will later and get back to you.

That's quite odd. As tedious as it sounds, you're probably better off adding the server addresses manually to each machine if you really want OpenDNS. It's not like that would take long but it's not quite as easy as adding it to the router.

I took a quick look and it sure does appear that the MediaSmart server has problems with OpenDNS (something to do with Connector software). I'd love to help but I know nothing about Windows Home Server.
