Oolu,

That was a post of mine earlier this week before we knew what the exact details of the 10.6 Snow Leopard launch today!

Yes...the $29 dollar 10.6 disk will upgrade a computer running OS 10.4...but it is NOTlegal to do it!!!

If you want to legally upgrade a computer running OS 10.4...you MUST purchase the $169 10.6 Mac Box Set!

- Nick

False, it's not illegal, it's simply against the OS X EULA, which is not breaking any laws.

Look...I'm not a lawyer!

The bottom line is (whatever words you want to use)...you are not supposed to use the $29 dollar 10.6 disk to upgrade a computer currently running OS 10.4!

I AM a lawyer, so I know what I'm talking about :p

You are correct that Tiger users shouldn't be using the $29 upgrade disc, but please stop spreading disinformation. First it was the incorrect information about the $29 disc being upgrade only and now you're telling Tiger users that they'll be breaking the law if they were to use the $29 disc. You should seriously do a bit more research before posting.

Are EULAs legally binding contracts? Or is it that they just haven't been tested in the courts?

Running SL right now... everything seems pretty tight. I'll be fooling around more and more later, but one glaring thing I noticed right away is my istat menus are broken. :(

They haven't been held up as legally binding contracts in courts. The worst thing that could happen is that you'll lose your warranty.

It doesn't matter... Bertrand said it was cool, just that it's preferred if they get the full version as it will make for a fully updated version of OS X and the iLife apps.

Trouble with login screen!

I installed SL and all was working fine, logged out of main profile and in to work profile. The login screen was non functional - nothing! Could not log in to either, start, restart or shutdown - nothing!

Restarted, changed to a non automatic login and now when I boot up, all I get is the non working screen - so I am now locked out of the whole computer!!!

The only good thing is that this is on the MB and not the IMAC so I am not out in the cold.

Any fixes?

Sorry, but that makes no sense to me. If I'm using expose to find a particular window, I'm looking for the one I want. I'm not looking to find the one I just had open before beginning my search.

Not looking for the one i just had open, but if expose put said window in the middle of every other window i suddenly lost track of where i was standing and where i want to go. Before, i knew which window was the active one and i immediately dismiss it and look forward.

Its really hard to explain, or to make anyone understand this as its a very subjective aspect, and i hope with a little time i can get used to and move on. I was looking if anyone else had the same issue as me but doesn't seems so.

Anyway, im really happy with the overall outcome of the upgrade.

im off to bed

Just finished my install, and am only using half of my keyboard and mouse thanks to Logitech not doing anything useful over the past 2 months. Logitech's Control Center doesn't work properly under 10.6

Installed the software and so far it is great. Everything is faster now and the laptop seems to be doing less work even though I have alot of programs running. Safari 4 has also really picked up in speed

Got about 14 gigs back. Love it so far and no issues

Snow Leopard User Roll Call

I've successfully switched to Snow. Backed up all my stuff and then did a fresh install. Seems faster (but that could just be the fact that its fresh install), and so far all my applications are running fine.

Hows 10.6 for everyone else so far? Just wondering how many people have made the switch.

That's the $64,000 question. :) That subject has been kicking around for years over in the MS sponsored forums. And then there's "Fair Use".... another controversial subject. I know that Microsoft has never sued an individual in court over the violation of their EULA. I don't think Apple has either.

Most folks are honest and feel it's a question of ethics. Apple has always been trusting and still is.

MS? Well, that's another story. :)

Regards.

Way... way too many specs to list.
Even software licenses are rarely actively pursued against individuals.

Hey all, Just a couple noobie type questions regarding Snow Leopard.

1.) (I will back up older files but...) should I expect to loose any programs, files or apps with the SL upgrade?
2.) Will all the mods I have made with GeekTool and Candybar still stay or will I have to re download, re do all these changes?
3.) Will all my apps work in SL? I have seen a list where it says that Bowtie doesn't quite work the same... is it true?

Thanks!

Since I know this will just end up in this thread if I try to post it anywhere else, here goes...

It occurred to me that the apple support page on their site has manuals you can view. And I remembered reading in the little insert that came with my SL dvd today that there is a pdf manual on the disc. For those (like me) who haven't installed yet, but are curious as to the manual and instructions on the dvd, this is the
SL manual.

1. No. You will lose no Apps.
2. You might have to redo the changes here as after installing 10.6, my dock and login screen reverted back to the Apple standard. That's probably because there's more data in the 10.6 dock. With how it does dock contextual menus and stuff.

3. Most should work just fine if you remember to install rosetta during 10.6. I think all users should, it's only like 15 MB. And the few that don't will have updates coming very shortly. For me all my apps work just fine in 10.6

yes, you might as well install rosetta and ditch all the languages you don't use. Totally worth the time to do a custom install.
