That's the $64,000 question. :) That subject has been kicking around for years over in the MS sponsored forums. And then there's "Fair Use".... another controversial subject. I know that Microsoft has never sued an individual in court over the violation of their EULA. I don't think Apple has either.

Most folks are honest and feel it's a question of ethics. Apple has always been trusting and still is.

MS? Well, that's another story. :)

Regards.

Actually, there are companies that tried to enforce their EULAs in court and each time judges have refused to enforce them as binding contracts.

I upgraded tonight after a 70-mile roundtrip journey to the Apple Store and am pleased with everything. The speed increase is definitely noticeable, although part of me wonders if this is because I now have a clean install of the operating system on my MacBook, which I purchased in late 2007.

I haven't gotten to check out everything just yet but the speed increase and freed hard drive space alone have been worth it. The scroll bars in the stacks have been a welcome addition as well.

The only thing that broke on my Mac is the custom search box on Safari. I had found a freeware program to let the search box use Bing and need to find a version of that program that works with Safari 4. My apps appear to work fine although I did need to install Rosetta (I'm surprised it didn't come with the standard install, but then again I get a feeling Apple assumes we upgrade our systems as often as possible--look at how quickly they killed OS 9 support compared to the length of time Microsoft left DOS compatibility in Windows).

I installed SL and all was working fine, logged out of main profile and in to work profile. The login screen was non functional - nothing! Could not log in to either, start, restart or shutdown - nothing!

Restarted, changed to a non automatic login and now when I boot up, all I get is the non working screen - so I am now locked out of the whole computer!!!

The only good thing is that this is on the MB and not the IMAC so I am not out in the cold.

Any fixes?

what kind of macbook do you have? maybe i should turn off my password protection for now...

I cannot get my ipod to sync with itunes after the upgrade. I plug it in , hit sync, "waiting for ipod" shows up, then it says failed to sync, disconnect and reconnect. I did it 5 times and it just won't sync. I had to manually add the new songs I added into itunes to my ipod.

I love the sleek transparent black dock menus when you click and hold... That's how I was trying to skin Leopard to look before. Maybe Apple will bless me with a translucent black menu bar option with white text and icons... that'd be something.

Overall my Snow Leopard experience has been very meh.

Finder is snappier, haven't fooled around with Quicktime, the overall feeling is just "meh".

I did upgrade to 4GB of RAM so that might be a factor, but other than that, well, it's definitely clear why this isn't a $129 upgrade.

And why is my screensaver not showing up at all? I had it set at 3 minutes, but it just won't come out!

Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro for Mac

Does anyone know for absolutely sure that Logitech QuickCam will work on Snow Leopard?

Thanks.

Can't wait for tomorrow to get SL. Going to pick one up at Fry's tomorrow. Hope the upgrade goes well with my MB :D . I will have my reviews after I have it installed on my MB. I am still a noob to all of this, but I am certainly loving my MB! I am so happy I finally got one.

After reading through this thread, and all the updates to OSX, I'm excited about upgrading my MBP. However, having come (recently) from a Windows environment, and having upgraded PC's all the way back from DOS/Windows 3.11, I have a few concerns. Hopefully they're unfounded.

1. Will applications continue to run under the new versions without having to repurchase them? I just recently installed newly purchased Office 2008 and Adobe Creative Suite 4. The applications won't fight agains running under a new version of the OS, will they?

2. Anyone who has ever upgraded windows more than a few times knows you DO NOT install over the old version, but instead wipe the OS (preferably by formatting the drive) and then install in order to avoid carrying over the old crap. Is this an issue with an OSX upgrade? All the events related in this thread have been mostly trouble free. Should I expect that, or plan to do a full wipe then restore my apps from my backups?

I had one issue in Mail with SMTP refusing to connect. I zapped the SMTP entries in the Keychain Editor and resaved the passwords and it works great. You might try in the Keychain Editor zapping the entries for the mobile me and mail and after you redo the password see if that solves it. Did for me.

I had Office 2008 installed on Leopard before I installed Snow Leopard. Afterwards, it's still running great with no problems. I did not have to un-install or re-install Office 2008 or do anything special.

You're not on Windows anymore my friend. Just stick in the SL disc, click upgrade and go and take the dog for a walk. About an hour later (depending on the speed of your machine) it'll be done. After reboot, it will re-index everything as well.

My Office 2008 works just fine after installation, along with everything else.

It appears to me that Snow Leopard has increased the highest level of brightness for my screen and colors are more crisp. When I move the brightness slider all the way to the right the brightness is almost blinding. I watched a movie and there is a definite improvement.

The speed of my machine is definitely faster.

So far no application appears to have been adversely affected. I have had no problems with iTunes, Time Machine, Airport, Safari, Mail, iDisk, and Office Mac 2008.

Installed this morning, no real issues. Had to re-install the Cisco VPN client and the Lexmark printer drivers - aside from that, flawless.
