Just ran Traceroute and Ping. Everything normal, zero packet loss.

I think the holiday gremlins are active or it's the Black Friday weekend woes....

Well, I bit the bullet, renamed my existing Firefox app "Firefox_old" and downloaded a brand new, pristine version from the Mozilla website -that would surely fix my 'dim icon' (= not accessible) problem.

But no - same issue.
So while I'm scratching my head, literally, trying to decide which Firefox plist or whatever to delete next, I'm playing around with the dim icons and guess what......
At the very right of that row of icons there is a little cogwheel with the description "Toggle BB code" whatever "BB code" is.
Turns out clicking on that changes the row of icons from being "accessible" (normal) and "not accessible" (dimmed).
So all the rebooting the Mac, restarting Firefox and re-downloading Firefox were useless exercises.
What does "Toggle BB code" mean and why is that option there in the first place?

@ian:

Both the Traceroute and Ping stats appear to be normal. As I stated elsewhere, must be something else causing the slowdowns.

We are working on it.

Website speed issues have been investigated...and some tweaks made.

Additionally some testing performed (time to load home page):

USA: 1.57 to 1.91 seconds
London, UK: 1.69 to 2.12 seconds
Sydney, Australia: 5.42 to 6.52 seconds

Hopefully everyone experiences better performance.:)

p.s. Some deviation from those values will occur during the day...due to server load...individual internet speeds on user end...time to fetch website content from external sources/servers...etc.

I can tell that as of 4pm GMT - or thereabouts - on Nov 30th, the time to open the Forums, to open New Posts, to go from one post to another has improved enormously for which I am most grateful.

Just some feedback. Well done guys.

Awesome...thanks Ian. Great to hear you're seeing an improvement!

Excellent Whoopie. I know from the thread you posted a couple days ago that you were having issues connecting via browser & your new MacBook Air. Great Safari is now working.:)

Well, as of this morning, the forum pages are now loading quickly for me, so back to normal on my MBAir (Catalina w/ Safari); and just tested my iPad Pro - same results, i.e. normal! Thanks - Dave :)

Congratulations to all those concerned, but it blows my mind away as to how one can remotely tell a server or whatever it is that's involved, to smarten up and behave and perform properly. Or are they just offered various bribes to do so??? ;)

BTW: I didn't seem to notice or have any slowdowns with the site here on the Canadian west wet Coast. And very windy here again today!!!

View attachment 32909

BBCode or Bulletin Board Code is a lightweight markup language used to format posts in many message boards. The available tags are usually indicated by square brackets ([ ]) surrounding a keyword, and they are parsed by the message board system before being translated into a markup language that web browsers understand—usually HTML or XHTML.[1]
