That's good :) Because, mine has at least a few times. Then again, this is a G3 500 Mhz iMac, so 10.3's running under the bare minimum!

Witeshark... if you are running updates you shouldn't have that much of an uptime...

Nightblade: you are definitely right on with what you said about hardware problems causing crashes. There are alot of hardware issues that can affect stability, anyone that overclocks will know about them. Wether it be your ram speed, timings, voltages, heat issues, etc etc. They can all play a huge role in how stable your computer is, and if your pc is spitting out erroneous values it won't be stable no matter what OS is running on it. I'd definitely recommend anyone having stability problems in XP to run a few benchmarking/break in programs like Prime95 and Memtest to make sure it isn't a hardware problem causing the crashes.

Now for graeme and whiteshark. I think it's really sad when you say anything positive in here about a pc or windows people take it as an attack against macs. Why am i a troll for saying my 2 XP setups have not crashed while using them. Did i say anything negative about OS X there? It seems neither of you want to hear anything other than MAC IS GREAT XP SUCKS MAC IS GREAT XP SUCKS. It's this type of delusional fanboyism from the minority that gives the majority of mac owners a bad name. Why should i go to another forum because i like pc's, i also like macs and would like to learn more about them. Each platform has it's strengths and weaknesses and you should be able to discuss them here.

all xp is is 2000 with unnecciary additions like that cartoon look "which can be turned off" and it just takes up disk space

and IE..... i hate that and i don't want it as my shell... my answer? 98lite with 95 shell :D www.litepc.com

its stable and not 3gb (its actually like 200mb and fully functional)

and OS X is still the best to me anyway :D

Something about crashing macs...

My macintosh has been up for about 3 years... with about a total of 5 days of not being on. All transporting from college and back. Has not crashed a single time. The finder in the early OS 10.1.? and 10.0.3/4 has crashed but the OS stayed standing, as long as the core crashes, applications like the finder can be shut down, crashed, even erased if you feel like dealing with code or / lines. I push my mac to its limit, and a few times I have had a upsetting app crash, but nothing major. I do restart everyonce and a while, but I never shut it down for more than an hour. ( cept transporting from college which takes about 5 hours)

An over reaction here. Really. We only posted our feelings and some facts from what we have seen. I never called you a troll.

No, I really think you were overreacting. I said XP hadnt crashed on me during the time I've run it. Which you came in and basically said I was lying. Then when a few others backed up my opinion about XP's stability you said wow there sure are alot of trolls around here. If it wasn't aimed at me then who was that aimed at, and why are they to be considered trolls for saying something positive about XP's stability. Why do you get so defensive and take it as an attack on OS X when someone claims their system is stable running XP? I wouldn't doubt anyone saying they've run OS X or Windows XP and not had it crash on them, they are both very very stable OS's. Now if I came in here saying my XP system can't catch a virus that is another matter :p . But honestly, I can't see anywhere in there where you stated a fact.....or even an HONEST opinion based on facts.

Darren or d4rr3n - you are the one saying that I called your remarks an attack on OS X When did I do that? My comment on trolls is a general one, again your interpretation not necessarily my actual intention, and my vague remark that hints that I may not believe that your xp has been that stable that long in no way implies that you lied, or that I think you did

I tried signing up as darren but that name is usually taken so i have to use the stupid L33T spelling as usual  . I didn't say you said that, it's just how i'm interpreting your replies. I'm not here trolling trying to get a rise out of people, sorry if i read it wrong or if you think i am. I may be a overreacting a little, but it's just the types of things here that get to me (not just here but every mac site). Some people's attitudes about the whole mac vs windows thing. They just seem to want to close their eyes and pretend everything is perfect and that there is nothing a windows pc can do better than a mac and won't accept that a mac has some room for improvement. This type of blind faith in a company/product is never good for the consumer. I like apple and i would like to see them be successful and actually compete with MS. I have been looking into getting a dual G5 for a little while now, but there are many shortcomings this system has that has kept me from taking the leap and nobody seems to be addressing them. It just seems that too many people are content with what is being given to them and what is being told to them specwise and benchmark wise without ever questioning it, and i find that kind of disturbing. :/

All well and good, and for what it adds, my bro is using xp because his college does, and he has the service pack 2 (coming in July) beta and it seems rather good, even if it needs 2 gig hard drive space

Whoa, we're REALLY off-topic now, aren't we? I mean, this topic was originally about a Windows desktop that has an OS X theme! Hehe, don't worry, though. Anyway, a G5 doesn't usually tend to be as fast as a Pentium 4 or an Athlon XP, but that doesn't mean it's not fast! It is, believe me! I'm sure you'll be content with the speed. Anyway, what are your shortcomings and gripes you have? I'll try to address them as best I can and see what I can do to help you, and I hope that other people here will do the same.
