My SSD trim is enabled on my Mojave set up. But I used to do a manual trim in Ubuntu and it was a good thing .I noticed a difference.
Is there any point to doing a manual trim via the Terminal on my Mac SSD?
If so what do you enter in the terminal?
In Ubuntu we used to use sudo fstrim -v /

No need. TRIM is automatic and should be left that way. Forget Ubuntu. macOS takes care of housekeeping for you.

Apple has now allowed TRIM to work on all drives so there is no need to enable it. Previously they were not supporting TRIM on non-apple SSDs but that has changed and in Mojave it is on by default.

You can check to make sure by going to About this Mac -> System Report -> under hardware select SATA/SATA Express -> select the SSD you want to check and look for TRIM Support. If it is on it will say "Yes".

Correction.... You still need to invoke TRIM support via the terminal for external SSDs. Apple built in TRIM support does not include external SSDs which are becoming very popular for backup and other uses.

Here's the command: sudo trimforce enable

Thanks chscag for the correction! I was referring to internal drives and "assumed" everyone would know that. My bad!
