Not sure how many folks are aware of this...I'm betting some of you out there who have Apple portable computers (MacBook Air or MacBook Pro's)...that ONLY have USB-C ports (and no Mag-Safe for power)...wish you had a Mag-Safe power cable.
Turns out there are products out there that can adapt/convert a USB-C port to operate just like Apple's Mag-Safe port for charging Apple portable computers...they look like this (other products as well):
Products shown are:
1. 90° adapter
2. Straight adapter
3. USB-C cable with integrated Mag-Safe adapter.
In each example...the little "nub-like" part plugs into the computers USB-C port (and can stay there all the time if you wish when not using the power cable). This part is very low profile...hardly sticks out at all.
With products 1 & 2...the 2nd adapter part attaches to the computers USB-C power cable that goes to computers power supply/power brick.
With product #3...the black cable replaces the USB-C cable that goes from the portable computers power supply to the computer. The magnetic end on this cable can also automatically rotate 180° allowing it to easily adjust to different situations.
Product 1 & 2 cost about $15 each...product 3 came as a 2-pack for $25.
These mag-safe style products can also be used for audio, video, and data purposes just like any USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 port on Apple portable computers.
Thus, for example...you could plug a USB-C external hard drive or external display into a MacBook Pro/MacBook Air via one of the Thunderbolt 3/USB-C ports...have it be connected via these magnetic adapters...and be safer from tripping hazards (no broken cables, damaged ports, or laptops on the floor). Lol
Pretty nifty products,
- Nick
