Eh, no Mac Mini. My credit card just went back into the wallet.

I do like the iPhoto and iMovie changes (will buy). I've used my current copy of iWork once in the last 3 months, so I'll pass on that upgrade.

The only thing I was excited about for the keynote with an OS X SnowLeopard preview, and a release date (seeing as they previewed it to developers a while ago). Very disappointing for a last Apple keynote at Macworld... I think I speak for everyone when I say I hope they change their mind and stay at MacWorld.

I agree, but I think everyone was so hyped up for new hardware - and that expectation was set by the rumor mill. Phil Schiller doing MWSF should have clued everyone in that this was not going to be anything earth-shattering.

No, agreed, I didn't think there would be... but you always hope. I think no new Mac Mini was a let down... and everyone is of course waiting for i7's to hit the Mac Pros, or even iMacs. Mac Pros are no longer bleeding edge because of this.

When is the next likely round of announcements? March?

If the battery is built in does that mean Apple has to change it for you when it reaches end of life? Or of course I'm sure you could do it on your own by voiding the warranty. If 3rd party vendors can even reproduce this new tech.

Yes, Apple mentioned a battery replacement program during the announcement. But the life expectancy is supposed to be significantly better than standard laptop batteries due to some kind of smart battery technology. They estimated the lifespan at 5 years. 1000 cycles is pretty amazing, in my experience most batteries are ready for replacement around 300-400 cycles.

Well, the keynote is over, which is when Apple makes product announcements. So, anything that comes out of Apple would have been mentioned today.

My guess is that Apple will just do their own announcements when they're good and ready to. I think that was the point of pulling out of Macworld was that they didn't want to be subject to anybody else's timeline.

Well firewire's not dead yet huh? DRM free is the way to be. But I can foresee problems with a completely new battery being built in.

*edit*Just a thought, aren't Li-Po batteries the ones known to explode?*edit*

Yes, I have already had my battery replaced under Apple Care once. After about 8 months the life went down to a 40 minute charge, they deemed it defective and replaced it with no problem (kudos to Apple Care).according to iStat Pro my battery health is currently 80% with 171 cycles.

Apple mentioned a battery replacement program during the announcement

I know they mentioned this but didn't give any details. I half halfheartedly searched the site in an attempt to find details, but I am feeling a bit lazy, has anyone found the details of this yet?

Now I can only hope they bring this technology to the 15-inch, while 17-inch is really nice I currently prefer the 15 seeing as I am in college and have to carry it around with me everywhere, plus it fits on the desk much better.

Buy a new one now, if they come out with an update big deal. You have a Mac and you will love it, each day you wait for an update is another day you are without a Mac. :)

Maybe it's just me, but I wasn't expecting to hear about any significant updates to the iMac, they just gave the platform a thorough revamp last year. If anything, I would only see them making incremental updates to the processor and GPU, nothing that would warrant a major announcement. I just don't see them making major changes to the chassis or underlying platform (OK, maybe a jump to an NVIDIA chipset - but seeing as how NVIDIA has had their share of troubles recently, that might not be so clear cut).

I wonder if they'll make new battery's for the new Macbook with the new Battery tech, but I doubt it since it's replaceable?

Also, did anyone else notice that the Matted screen will have a silver Bezel on the MBP17?

Only thing I was hoping to be true was an upgrade to the Mini. Maybe that will come at another time at an Apple run event like they do with new iPods.

Yeah, that seems pretty good, but it's a shame they just announced it now :(. I wish they did that with the old MBPs, what do I need to take the battery out for, I'm never gonna change it :(.

a quick question. I bought a MacBook from the Apple Store three days ago. I know that Apple offer a 30-day guarantee on purchases for hardware, but do they do the same for software. ie, my Macbook came with iLife 08 installed - will I be able to get a free upgrade to 09 or will I have to purchase it?

This may be a stupid question but I would like to know this as well. I just got a Macbook and I'm really interested in the new iPhoto features and would like to know if I would have to pay the $80 to upgrade. I also just bought iWork '08 and I'm curious about that piece of software as well.
