In case you guys didn't hear about it already...Mac OS 10.9 "Mavericks" is now available.

And the price...FREE!!!:):)

Apple - OS*X Mavericks

- Nick

p.s. I saw that this was mentioned in the "Something New" thread. But I'm thinking an announcement as important as this (a free OS upgrade) deserves it's own thread!:)

Anyone know for sure how to make a flash drive? Going to search now. I want a clean install.

Installed and up and running.

MDS_stores is eating into my CPU and both fans are blazing... and yet, it doesn't appear that Spotlight is indexing. Not sure what's going on, but I'm afraid to unplug my machine.

Some of you guys are VERY brave installing an OS upgrade so quickly...especially if we're talking someone's main computer.

Who knows what "early-adopter" glitches may be lurking!;)

Chris, did you upgrade? Is the Flash drive procedure the same as ML and Lion? someone said it might be different.

I've upgraded every version of OS X starting with Lion on day-one and not had any problems at all..:)

OS X Mavericks is going to be no different..

Yup, straight upgrade... didn't do anything special, other than to make sure Time Machine was up-to-date.

I will very likely do a clean install later on, but for now, I wanted to kick the tires on Mavericks. Not sure if the procedure for creating a boot drive is different... I have no reason to believe it is.

I was expecting a free upgrade after Microsoft offered a relatively cheap upgrade to Windows 8 when it was released.

Although I am a Mac noob and not loving it yet (not hating as well, kinda like though), I was eagerly expecting this one because of the under the hood improvements which are said to improve battery life.

Backup is done, download was started and let's see how it goes.

Important question. I'm running 10.6. Will any apps I have not run at all or not run correctly under 10.9? I'm thinking in particular of things like iPhoto and iMovie.

If no-one knows yet, that's fine. I just won't upgrade yet.

This is true. Just some extra work reloading & backing up just before the upgrade.:)

Among your many other options!:)

Hopefully.;)

Even though it's free...I'll wait at least a little while before upgrading. No hurry here.

I seriously am upgrading in case someone has issues so I can help them here on the forums. If I run into issues I have full TM backups I can restore from so not worried.

Can you guys give me a link about how to create a boot drive?

By the way, when you say a boot drive, do you mean a drive which you can use to install the os or just like those live cds?

Yes a drive that the computer boots from in order to install the OS. Just like the DVD's we used to get from Apple in previous years...but now on a USB thumb drive we make ourselves.:)
