My connection died on me! Actually, I still had a connection to my router so for about 5 minutes, I thought I still had an internet connection. I thought everyone was just silent - I even made a tumbleweed joke only to realize that I wasn't connected anymore. lol.

I missed this! Opps!

My internet rarely goes down but when it does it's always at the worst possible times! First thing I always do is check the router. The Linksys GL has never crashed. It's always been DSL

Well now I am a member of the Mac Forums DLink DIR-655 Group! :D Just got it on Wednesday. I hope it's as stable as the Linksys with Linux Firmware. I know CWA and Bob sure love theirs. So far it's the best router I have ever owned!!

If you truly were a fanboy, you'd buy an Airport Extreme router :p

As a student, I haven't got the money for one. Care to foot the bill? ;)

I know this is waaaay OT but...
What do you think so far? I have a D-Link DIR615 B/G/N router that was $20 (yes, you read that right!) on sale at BB and well... it works like a $20 router. My primary reason for going wireless is for my wife's iPod Touch (which was mine until I got an iPad). All of my "fixed" computers in the house are hard-wried into the router so that's not the issue. The 3.2.1 upgrade for the iPad did wonders, but I still get spotty reception in some parts of the house.

I was thinking about getting an external antenna, a repeater or a new router. A better signal is going to cost me more money but I am not sure which way to go!

Not a fanboy at all. When I pay even $50 for a router I expect a real firewall and not NAT. NAT (Network Address Translation) is NOT a true firewall. It does not inspect and reject packets. Any true hardware firewall does the above. $180 or even $100 for a router today that has no true hardware firewall just does not make me happy. I have looked in my logs and seen attack after attack and my SPI firewall blocking those attacks.

Too bad as I really like the Airport Extreme. If I was a rich man I would get one and use it as a WAP behind a router with a proper Firewall with at least Statefull Packet Inspection or better yet, Deep Packet Inspection.

I hope my words don't hurt anyone, but that is why I don't own an AE at my only router.
