OMG, I'm stuck in bar band ****. I'm working with my friend, another WAHM, at a local tavern (that has wifi) and it's open mike night. How many times do you have to hear "Comfortably Numb" by a band that can't quite pull it off? I can barely stand that song anyways. Why, why why?

ETA, they started playing Nirvana covers. That's not so bad. I can turn off the Jesus Lizard for little while.

What do they call those people that suck the life out of a good idea?

I was thinking of surprising Nick with a little whale watching trip for Valentine's Day. I went online, googled it, found the place that does it. I live right near where the gray whales swim through every year.

So anywho, I'm all excited and I go to show my mom the website. First thing she says, "Oh, you know you're probably going to get sea sick and you may throw up," and then she starts laughing. I swear, I felt like she just ripped apart all of my excitement and enthusiasm. :( I felt bad and I got mad at her and didn't even finish telling her about it. I think it was mean of her. She should of at least tried to be interested instead of ruining it.

Baaah! :( Party pooper.

Do you know if he like watching whales? As for the sea sickness, it is more of motion sickness. I have found if it bothers you then look up a little bit more. For some reason if you look down, it bothers you more than if you look up.

Well, I know it's something we both haven't done. :\ I guess I better ask him first, instead of trying to do a surprise.

Thanks for the link - I may have to bite the bullet and go. As you know sometimes you have to compromise.

If you want to still surprise him. Pay with a credit card, then you might still have an option to cancel.

I'm pretty sure he'll want to do it. But I may tell him anyway only because I'm bad at keeping surprises. :)

I already posted this in my thread, but I figured I'd post it here too:

Well, my first article is being published in today's (Wednesday's) newspaper. I feel that the editor kind of butchered my message. He just dumbed down my language so much. My original message was, "Look, I'm not calling you dumb, but not accepting evolution is irrational. Don't let your religious beliefs impede your ability to use reason." But the edited article seems to have a message more like, "Come on now people, let's accept evolution already. Let's come together." He also took out my favorite part of the article, where I compare literal interpretation of the Bible to literal interpretation of Animal Farm. He also changed the part where I say, "evolution is a truth" to "evolution has a strong argument." It doesn't matter if evolution has a strong argument. That's like saying gravity has a strong argument. Both are simply factual realities of the empirical world. Saying it has a strong argument implies that there's still room to reasonably disagree, which I don't believe.

I don't know. Tell me what you think:

Here's the newspaper version:

And here's my original version, which I've posted up on my blog:

Which one do you think makes a stronger argument?

Well, without commenting one way or the other on the substance of your article, I would have to agree that your editor did more than just "edit". He/she appears to have bordered on "rewritten". It is a bit of a travesty. The article is no longer the one you wrote. Darn shame.

i personally like yours a lot better. but i guess what the editor did was done to protect the newspaper from would be angry people if they said that "Evolution is the only way".
